Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

This episode you’ll hear just a bit more about the Pine Ridge, AR connection to the people of Mayberry.  Did you know that Gomer’s grandpa is from the home town of “Lum and Abner?”  That’s right! Gomer’s Grandpa, Sergeant Otis Pyle, is a very close relative of Abner Peabody.

Next we’ll hear some feedback from a fellow listener before we get into the actual topic of our show.

Finally we’ll get into the meat of the show.  We all know what a wonderful son Andy Taylor has and we’ll take a few minutes to be reminded.  I know we’ll all agree that Opie is a man.

Shazzam! Seen these episodes many times, and never picked up that Grandpa Pyle was the same person who played Mr. Doakes and Abner. This is neat! Love that line “Are you six foot? You look six foot”

I was just thinking…I am only 5 moths older than Ronnie Howard. When watching the show in the 60, I thought he was one of the luckiest kids on earth getting to act on a tv show. In this episode, he was fired for deciding to go play so that his friend could have the job because his family needed the money….When I was in the 5th grade playing midget football I was on the first string….one day I decided to miss practice so I could play with my friends and it was the day of a scrimmage game…needless to say that did not fly to well. I was demoted from the first string to second string for doing that, boy did that hurt. Of course my reason for missing the game was purely because I just wanted to play. Part of being a kid! Ron’s character Opie sure was a great role model for other kids. During those days I also really liked watching Dennis the Menace, Rin Tin Tin, and Timmy on Lassie, great shows with some great kid actors.
