Two Chairs No Waiting

Back in 1998 two guys named Joey Fann and Brad Grasham started a summer Bible study at their church.  You may have heard about the Mayberry Bible study.  Well, Joey and Brad are the fellers that started at Twickenham Church of Christ in Huntsville, AL.

Joey is also a member of the Who’s Been Messin’ Up the Bullet Board? Chapter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club so I’ve known him from before he started the Bible study.  I was also able to attend 2 of the classes he and Brad did that summer.

Joey went on to write the book “The Way Back to Mayberry: Lessons From a Simpler Time.”  A revised and extended version of the original was released in September 2010.

I hope you’ll enjoy the episode as we look a bit deeper in to how things started and what exactly was happening back in 1998.

    Hi Allan,
So glad to hear you are starting a podcast bible study. Many of the churches we visit during the year tell us that they have done the Mayberry bible study. If we look around enough we can find the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Mayberry morals have a lot in common. God Bless !! And like I end all my programs I ask” What in the world are we going to do with sin? And the audience hollers out. NIP IT IN THE BUD!!

It is amazing that these young men really like TAGS not to mention that they carried that interest into a Bible study. Fantastic. It is rare for young people to recognize the values displayed by the charaters within TAGS . One fellow I work with who is about 35 now told me that he did not like anything that is in Black and White. This was his response one day when I was talking about TAGS, of course I did inform him there are also episodes in color just for him to enjoy. LOL.

The comment made early in the podcast “you look nice enough to be buried” reminded me of a t shirt I saw in Tombstone, AZ once, it read “Why walk around half dead when you can be buried for only a couple of dollars”

There is truely a lot to like about Mayberry and its citizens. I think just about everone would like to live like they do in Mayberry, it does remind us of a better time. Lots of Biblical lessons built into the show!
