Two Chairs No Waiting 153: Return from Mayberry

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:15:49

Two Chairs No WaitingVisit the Return to Mayberry set with Jim Clark and Ken Beck. The original telling of this story can be found in the April 13, 1986 edition of The Bullet and is written by Jim Clark, himself.

We get to hear Jim’s account of first meetings with Andy Griffith, Aneta Corsaut, Betty Lynn, Hal Smith and other cast and crew members from The Andy Griffith Show.  Jim and Ken have written so many Mayberry book that I guess I’ve always felt they always knew these folks so it’s fun to hear a little insight into how it all began.

Reading Jim’s words, and you hearing them, takes us all along with him so we can picture in our minds eye that we were there with he and Ken.  Thank big you to Jim and Ken for going to Mayberry and bringing us along.

Follow me on Twitter if you use twitter. I’ve been posting all kinds of Mayberry things there as another way to let folks know about The Andy Griffith Show.

What a wonderful experience for Jim and Ken. I am glad they were able to visit the set and if anyone deserved the opportunity I think they did. This was a memorable event and a miracle the producers were able to get the cast reunion for the filming. The closest experience I think I can say that I have had to what they did would be my two visits to Franklin Canyon Reservoir, the site of the Old 40 Acres Backlot, and walking around the old Desilu Cahuenga Studios.

Great episode, enjoyed this and hearing of Jim and Ken’s experience.

So I just listened to the podcast 6 years after it aired and after watching Return to Mayberry 31 years after it originally aired. They both were a blast of Mayberry past! I had no idea our Presiding Goober was on the set of the movie!! It reminded me of when the Taylor’s went to Hollywood!
