Two Chairs No Waiting

It has been 14 years since the great Don Knotts left this world. It was Feb 24, 2006 when he passed away and it’s been since 2014 that an episode of this podcast was dedicated to remembering him which is too long to go without honoring this amazing man.

I’m going to share some of my memories of Don Knotts and then we’ll hear from Jim Clark with his memories. Jim Clark is the man behind The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) and his memories are from the March 2006 issue of The eBullet, the official newsletter of TAGSRWC.

Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Wallace Ford part 2.

We lost Don Knotts on February 24, 2006 so each year around that time we take an episode of the podcast to remember the man who Don was and what he’s meant to his fans.

This episode we’ll look at Don’s biography so we, as fans, can get to know who he was just a little better.  I hope you’ll join me in remembering Don Knotts.

There has been a photo making the rounds on the internet the last month or so saying:

You’ll never, in a million years, guess who this is.

Guess who?

Bet you can’t guess who this blonde beauty is………
look closely and try guess before scrolling down for the answer.. After you guess or give up, scroll down below the photo.

It then goes on to say the photo is Frances Bavier.  Well…it isn’t.  I’ve been trying for weeks to defeat this rumor/urban legend but I’m not winning.  I’m hopeful that after this podcast, the listeners of Two Chairs will help me spread the truth.

We’ll also hear a couple of your voice mails!  Keep ’em coming…I love to hear from you.

Friends, the world lost our number one deputy on February 24, 2006.  To celebrate the life of Don Knotts and the amazing character he brought to life the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast has dedicated an episode of the podcast to him each year.  This year is no exception.

TAGSRWC member Bart Boatwright owns a master copy of the The Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Jim Nabors Special from 1965.  As part of that special, Andy and Don appeared as Andy Taylor and Barney Fife in a version of the Mayberry courthouse.  They even performed the judo attack with a ruler skit with Andy attacking Don.

I hope you’ll enjoy hearing the scene and picturing in your head the action.  In this one case, you may also want to watch the video version of Two Chairs to see what’s happening.  Or just drop by Bart’s YouTube video and see the original.

Thank you Mr. Knotts, for all you did to bring joy into our lives!  “Mayberry says, ‘Thanks and happy motorin.'”

I know you enjoyed last weeks episode and you’re going to enjoy this weeks even more. This interview is from almost 20 year ago (April 1993) and aired on WBT in Charlotte, NC. Our hosts are Henry Boggan and Mike Collins.  The interview a Don and Barbara were on an eleven city national tour of the play “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” at the time.

These two stars from The Andy Griffith Show are special people and I know listening to the conclusion of this interview will make that even more clear to fans.  Enjoy the show!

You’re in for a treat for the next couple of episodes of Two Chairs No Waiting.  I was able to find an almost 20 year old interview with Don Knotts and Barbara Eden from April 1993.  The interview aired on WBT in Charlotte, NC and was hosted by Henry Boggan and Mike Collins. Don and Barbara were on an eleven city national tour of the play “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” at the time.

I know you’re going to enjoy this so sit back, hang on, and enjoy listening to these two stars from The Andy Griffith Show.

We had fun last week with Mayberry tribute artist Ken “Otis” Junkin (a.k.a. Big Maude) and I didn’t want the fun to end.

This episode we get to hear a bit more from Ken but this time it’s about his trip to Hollywood back in January 2000 to see Don Knotts get his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Episode 97 of Two Chairs No Waiting was devoted to the topic of Don Knotts’ star and you’ll want to go back and give that podcast a listen after you hear Ken’s tale.  Atta boy, Ken!

We’ll also hear a short but fun story by tribute artist Christie McLendon who fills the role quite well of Charlene Darling Wash’s daughter, all growed up, Andylina.  You should remember Andylina. The baby version of her was betrothed to Opie Taylor but some witchery on Andy’s side of the family broke off the betrothal.
