Two Chairs No WaitingHost: Allan Newsome

Many Mayberry fans have known about the Mayberry Cafe in Danville, IN for years but I’m betting there are those of you who may not know that this central Indiana bit of Mayberry exist.

Thanks to Two Chairs No Waiting roving reporter, Tom Rusk, we have an interview with Brad and Christine Born.  The Born’s are the owners of the Mayberry Cafe which opened back in 1989!  Complete with a Mayberry patrol car out front, the cafe is a sight to behold.  The menu consists of items like “Aunt Bee’s Fried Chicken,” “Barney’s BBQ Ribs,” and “Howard Sprague’s Ham Steak.” Oh…and don’t forget “Floyd’s Fish Sandwich” or “Ernest T’s Bacon-Swiss Burger”…they’re goooood.

Thanks to Tom for doing this interview for the podcast and if you’re in Danville, be sure to drop by 78 W Main Street and tell the Born’s that “Floyd” said “Hey.”

Follow me on Twitter if you use twitter. I’ve been posting Mayberry things there as another way to let folks know about The Andy Griffith Show.

Who is Sid Elson, what is he proprietor of, and how does this connect to The Andy Griffith Show. Those are really good questions and in this episode we’re going deep into some trivial trivialities to get answers that I believe you’ll enjoy.

For a minute I thought I’d discovered something but Paul Mulik beat me to it…by more than 5 years. There are screen captures of the things we’ll talk about over on our Facebook fan page.

We’ll also talk just a bit about the Burke on Mayberry podcast.  Enjoy your stay here in our little corner of Mayberry.

On at least one occasion, right after Jim Lindsey is arrested for playing guitar in front of Monroe’s Funeral Parlor, we can glimpse writing on the left window of the Barber Shop next door (soon to be known to us as Floyd’s Barber Shop, with Floyd as proprietor) that says “Sid Elson, Prop.”  Even later, of course, that space is Emmett’s Fix-It Shop, with Emmett Clark as proprietor, so both Floyd’s Barber Shop and Emmett’s Fix-It Shop are acceptable answers.

Two Chairs No Waiting

The final part of the interview with the owners and operators of The Taylor Home Inn, Dave & Marsha Scheuermann. These folks are true Mayberry citizens. I believe you can tell from the four parts of their interview that they enjoy sharing the experience with fellow Mayberry fans as visitors enter their home.

We all look for Mayberry in our lives and the Scheuermann’s are lucky enough to have those seekers of the Mayberry spirit searching out their inn.

Have you heard of The Taylor Home Inn?  It’s a bed and breakfast located near Clear Lake, WI owned and operated by fans of The Andy Griffith Show Dave & Marsha Scheuermann.  They invite folks to step back in time for a visit to Andy Taylor’s home.

You will not believe how much the fireplace looks like Andy Taylor’s.  That alone is enough to make the trip but there is so much more.  We find out how they met and what drove them to build and share this wonderful home with others in part 1 of our interview.

Please tell folks about our show and don’t forget to share some comments or ask a question or two on the iMayberry.com/podcasts website or by using the contact information given in the podcast. I would love to have you be a part the show.
