In the last few weeks, we heard a flashback from “Floyd” from July 13, 2010 and then the first of our old time radio (OTR) “lost” episode from June 5, 2012 called “Mayberry After Mid-day.”

This week we get to hear the second OTR episode released for episode 500 of Two Chairs on October 16, 2018. The episode is called “The New Barber” was written by Joe Gritton and features Mayberry barber, Floyd Lawson, and door-to-door salesman, Bert Miller along with a few other Mayberry notables. Sit back and use your imagination to picture the goings on in Mayberry while you listen to this “old time radio” program.

These episodes were some of the hardest episodes I’ve ever done because of tall the sound effects, music, editing, voice acting (I do all the voices) and just putting the OTR show together. If you watch the video version of the episode you’ll see the credits at the end showing everyone involved in making “The New Barber.” I think you’ll find the credits funny. I had forgotten them so I laughed when putting this episode together.

I hope you enjoy the episode and it really makes you feel like you’re hearing a lost episode of The Andy Griffith Show.

Last week, we heard from “Floyd” who did a flashback to a time he and Bert Miller talked about going into business together. That was originally released on July 13, 2010 and was the first time I had done anything that reminded me of those old time radio (OTR) programs. It got me thinking about doing other episodes with Floyd & Bert that sound like “lost” OTR versions of The Andy Griffith Show.

It was June 5, 2012 (episode 191 & 192) before the first OTR “lost” episode was made. Writer and Two Chairs listener, Joe Gritton, provided me the script featuring Mayberry barber, Floyd Lawson, and door-to-door salesman, Bert Miller. A little over 4 years later, on July 5, 2016 (#384) I re-released the two episodes as a speical edition created to sound like an actual episode of The Andy Griffith Show from beginning to end with opening music and everything, no Two Chairs intro or anything.

Mayberry After Mid-day” begins with Bert Miller walking down the sidewalk of Main Street heading from the Mayberry Grande toward the courthouse. As Bert nears Floyd’s barber shop, he slows down and considers sitting down for a rest on the bench outside the barber shop window but decides to head on inside. Join them now in Mayberry and hear what happens.

As a note, we lost Joe Gritton last year and I am so grateful and thankful to have these OTR episodes to remember and honor him. These type episodes are hard to do and take a long time to perform and edit together but they are some of my favorite Two Chairs episodes. We’ll have another OTR Mayberry episode next week so come back if you enjoy it.

Back on episode 92 of Two Chairs, I thought it would be nice to have Floyd host the show. To paraphrase Floyd, “Ninety-two, people always talking about podcast but nobody does anything about it.” Floyd shares a flashback with us of a time when Bert Miller dropped by the barber shop with a business idea for Floyd. Enjoy this flashback and we hope you’ll let it take you to the land of rythme and pleasure or at least to a scene in Mayberry that we never witnessed but now we get to hear.

Then we’ll drop in on episode 94 of Two Chairs to remind ourselves about Other. You may know the names of the Darling boys are Rodney (guitar), Doug (also called Jebbin – banjo), Mitch (bass) and Dean (also called Other – mandolin) but do you know where the name “Other” came from? I mean the name “Other” of course. On this episode, we’ll find out.

We’ll also hear from a caller with a couple of corrections and additions to information about Don Knotts appearances on cartoons I mentioned in episode 93. You can go back and give that episode a listen if you’re still looking for Mayberry fun.

TCNW 500: The New Barber

500! Wow…I never intended to do this podcast past episode 249 since that would have matched the number of episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. Here we are at twice that number and you are still listening. THANK YOU!

Since reaching 500 episodes is a milestone, I thought it would be fitting to do something special and thanks to Joe Gritton I think this episode will be special.

Joe wrote a script for an episode of The Andy Griffith Show and we’ve turned it into an “old time radio” version of The Andy Griffith Show. It’s like finding a lost episode featuring our friends from Mayberry.

Two years ago “Mayberry After Mid-day” was released to sound like an actual episode of The Andy Griffith Show from beginning to end. Now we have a second episode, “The New Barber.”

Writer Joe Gritton provided the script featuring Mayberry barber, Floyd Lawson, and door-to-door salesman, Bert Miller, and a few other Mayberry notables. Sit back and use your imagination to picture the goings on in Mayberry, NC while you listen to this “old time radio” program.

Randy Turner will return next week with his This Week in Mayberry History.

I really enjoy Old Time Radio (OTR) and that’s one of the reasons I did Two Chairs No Waiting #384 as an OTR special.  That love made me really enjoy a bit of feedback I got from Jim Romig about OTR and Mayberry.  We’ll talk all about that on this episode.

We’ll also talk about a question related to Andy’s hair color and try to get to the root of the question.

What if The Andy Griffith Show had been on the radio? I mean old time radio? Wouldn’t it be great to discover that there were lost episodes with our Mayberry friends in them?

Four years ago “Mayberry After Mid-day” was released here on Two Chairs but it was across two episodes (#191 &192). This speical edition is created to sound like an actual episode of The Andy Griffith Show from beginning to end.

Writer Joe Gritton provided a wonderful script featuring Mayberry barber, Floyd Lawson, and door-to-door salesman, Bert Miller. Sit back and use your mind’s eye to picture the goings on in our hometown of Mayberry, NC while listening to this “old time radio” program.

We begin “Mayberry After Mid-day” with Bert Miller walking down the sidewalk of Main Street heading from the Mayberry Grande toward the courthouse. As Bert nears Floyd’s barber shop, he slows down and considers sitting down for a rest on the bench outside the barber shop window. Join them now in Mayberry and hear what happens.

Last week we heard from Floyd and Bert all about Barney and Thelma Lou’s first meeting at Wilton Blair’s funeral and the romance that followed.  That was some hay ride.

As we left the pair, they were sitting in the barber shop beginning to talk about Mr. Schwamp and Nellie.

Let’s drop by the barber shop and see what other gossip they might be sharing about the towns people of Mayberry.   Let’s join them now and hear what happens.  Listen…..

Thank you to writer Joe Gritton has provided a wonderful script featuring Mayberry barber, Floyd Lawson, and door-to-door salesman, Bert Miller.
