Doug Dillard Memorial

Please share your thoughts, well wishes, and memories of Mayberry's banjo playing Darling boy, Doug Dillard.

May 17, 2012 : Doug was at every Mayberry Days celebration in Mt. Airy, NC. He was an amazing banjo player and never failed to entertain the crowds. My memories of Doug will include his music but also the smile he wore whenever we met. God bless you, Doug. You will be missed. --Allan

May 17, 2012 : Doug will indeed be missed. Banjo players talk about how fast and clear Douglas was on an instrument that is not easy to play, let alone play well. Thank you for sharing your talents and inspiring others. Rest in Peace, friend. - Jeff

May 17, 2012 : Sure will miss Doug and that great smile of his.

May 18, 2012 : I'll miss seeing him at Mayberry Days.

May 22, 2012 : I had the great honor of talking with Doug on a bench outside the Andy Griffith Playhouse last year during Mayberry Days. He was a kind sweet man and I know I speak for my family when I say he will be truly missed by all. God Bless Doug's family during this time. I know he is in heaven playing Doug's Tune with the angels. Mayberry has lost one of it's finest citizens.

May 22, 2012 : Doug thanks for the music, get on the truck and head to heaven, I appreciate it.

June 01, 2012 : My son and I visited Mayberry Days in 2004. That was the same year Andy Griffith was there! We got to see Andy from a distance with his wife, and later we went and listened to The Darlings and Charlene! What a thrill. Doug will be terribly missed but we will still hear his banjo on TAGS!

June 04, 2012 : You were the best! Thanks for many, many years of wonderful music!

June 04, 2012 : What sad news. I was fortunate to have met Doug and Rodney during Mayberry Days several years ago. I was so thrilled. A hole that can never be filled has be left in the world of bluegrass music. My deepest condolences to his family. He left a wonderful legacy.

June 05, 2012 : TAGS, The Darling Family, and The Dillard's were all so special to millions. Thanks, Doug, for giving us something we can cherish, something that will likely never be created again.

June 15, 2012 : It is with much sadness when I read the Bullet and found out about Doug's passing. I remember when we had the Dillard's up here in Minnesota for Barney's Day Out in 2005. What a wonderful time we all had, my late husband, Mick Kieffer, was so thrilled to be with the "boys" and pick and sit a spell. I remember giving Doug a ride to the airport in our '63 Ford Squad Car, he was grinning from ear to ear all the way there. I'll miss his big grin, wonderful music and country manner. RIP.
