Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

This is an interview I did with Jean “Hello Doll” Carson back on 26 June 1998 in Kingsport, TN.

Jean passed away on November 2, 2005 and she is greatly missed but continues to bring smiles to the faces of The Andy Griffith Show fans as Daphne (the “Fun Girl”) and convict Naomi Connors.

Jean’s love for the fans was sincere and that love was returned to her by all that had the chance to meet her.  I know you’ll enjoy the interview and the memories.

Allan, I so enjoyed the interview with Jean Carson. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer! I never had the privilege of meeting Jean, but it seems that those who did always had complimentary comments about her. I think it speaks highly of Jean that the three episodes of TAGS she appeared in are some of the most memorable of the series and that fans remember her so well and love her characterizations. It’s nice to know that she really appreciated her fans. It strikes me as almost funny that she would assume most people would not remember her roles on TAGS. Just the way she delivered the line “Hello, doll” was unforgettable! I remember sending Jean a get-well card to her during her last illness, and I was so sorry to learn of her passing. I understand she was a Christian, so even though I was unable to meet her during her earthly life, I look forward to meeting her one day in heaven.

I did get to see her at Pigeon Forge, I think it was 2003? I enjoyed that show, after the show I got autographs from Barbara Stuart, Betty Lynn, and Howard Morris….I think the time ran out before I could get to Jeans table for an autograph. Wow Allan, what fun it must have been to be able to do the skits with her replaying that role as Floyd the Barber. Good job on the iterview. These are great andI know you treasure them on a personal basis, you have been very fortunate to have been involved in these shows and interacting with the cast members. “The Most Unusual Camera” on the Twilight Zone was one of my favorite episodes and who could ever forget her appearances on TAGS? Good Job!
