TCNW 501: It says 10 for Ten Years

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:30:57

This episode will mark our 10th year for Two Chairs No Waiting. Last episode was actually the 10 year mark but it was also the 500th episode so I didn’t talk too much about the beginnings of Two Chairs.

We’re going to take a trip back in time to hear “young” Allan doing the first episode of Two Chairs. I hope you’ll enjoy this bit of nostalgia for a podcast that’s about your favorite show (The Andy Griffith Show). Whew…that’s very meta (met·a: meaning of a creative work referring to itself or to the conventions of its genre; self-referential).

Randy Turner brings us a This Week in Mayberry History report on Julie Adams.

TCNW 447: It says 9 for Nine Years

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:56:47

On the 11th of October 2008 the first episode of Two Chairs No Waiting was published. Since then I have created enough content to allow a listener to consume Two Chairs for 6 days and 15 hours. That’s almost 24 hours a day for a week. If you have listened to all of those hours, I’m amazed you made it through. Even if you’ve listened to the majority, I’m humbled and thankful.

This episode marks the 9th Anniversary of this show and I thought it would be a good place to just have a conversation about Mayberry. That’s what I did on a podcast hosted by John Lane called “Goober Say Hey” that recently ended it’s run after 23 episodes. John interviewed me for his final episode and we talked about a rang of Mayberry related topics to include Mayberry events held around the country, where The Andy Griffith Show was filmed, how I keep Two Chairs going, and much more.

This is going to be the longest episode I’ve ever posted so keep in mind you can pause and come back later if need be. So, sit back and enjoy two Mayberry fans talking about our love for The Andy Griffith Show. I think you’ll enjoy it.

Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring The Andy Griffith Show is going to be released as a SPECIAL Episode so it is featured, as it should be.

On October 11, 2008 the Two Chairs No Waiting Podcast was launched and with episode 397 the show reaches the 8 year milestone.  Eight years matches the time that The Andy Griffith Show was on the air in it’s original run.  It’s amazing that so many of you have joined me for the 397 episodes it took to reach this point.

Over the course of the podcast, if you listened to every episode, you have consumed 5 days, 19 hours, and 41 minutes of content related to The Andy Griffith Show.  For perspective, The Andy Griffith Show itself is about 4 days and 12 minutes in total length.

Because of this podcast and The Andy Griffith Show I’ve been blessed to do so many things and to get to know so many friends.  It’s because of you that I keep coming up with things related to Mayberry for us to discuss each week.  You are what makes Two Chairs happen and I thank you!

Last episode we have a great “special report” from Kevin Burke about a portion of Mayberry Days 2015.  This week we move on to part 2 of our report on Mayberry Days as I try to cover as much of what happened as possible.

If you watch the video version of the podcast you’ll see a lot of photos taken during the event but even if you just listen, hopefully you will hear how wonderful a trip to Mayberry Days can be for fans of The Andy Griffith Show.

The weekend is always a highlight of my year.  Getting to see friends I’ve made through the internet and through this podcast and visiting with fans of Mayberry.  It is so special and if you walk away from this episode with anything in mind, I hope it will be to make plans to attend Mayberry Days 2016.

On October 11, 2008 the Two Chairs No Waiting Podcast was launched and with this episode we reach the 6 year and 300th episode milestone!  It’s hard for me to imagine that you have joined me for 300 episodes of a show where we  visit and talk about The Andy Griffith Show and we still find new things to discuss.

Because of The Andy Griffith Show and this podcast I have been able to meet and get to know you and so many other fans of our “home town.”  You are the salt of this earth and it is because of you that I take time to find a topic for us to discuss each week.  You are what makes Two Chairs happen and I thank you for it.

This week we begin a series of several episodes where several Mayberry Tribute Artist join me in sharing their memories.  David “The Mayberry Deputy” Browning, Kenneth “Otis” Junkin, Tim “Goober” Pettigrew, Jeff “Howard” Branch, Phil “Ernest T” Fox, Bob “Briscoe” Mundy, Michael “Gomer” Oliver, and myself sat down and we spend almost an hour recording our memories of performing as the characters we all love from The Andy Griffith Show.  You’ll hear us talking about the actors from the show but also about the wonderful Mayberry fans we’ve met through the years.

I hope you enjoy these memories because they mean enough to the tribute artists that they wanted to share them with you.  I also hope you see that “Mayberry” is alive and well in the hearts of many people throughout this country.

Mayberry Days 2013 was one of the most fun Mayberry Days for me in recent years.  That is saying a LOT. The wonderful weather may have been a factor but I believe it was the fans.  It seemed to me that everybody had a smile on their face and was in a true “Mayberry” mood.

This episode of the podcast was recorded in the “Otis Mobile” (a.k.a. Kenneth Junkin’s Tahoe).  Ken allows me to ride to and from Mayberry events with him when my wife isn’t going and that’s fairly often.  We have a great time riding around and come up with ideas for future Mayberry skits more times than not.  This time, I thought it would be fun to have Ken help me file a report from Mayberry about the 2013 Mayberry Days.

I know you’re going to enjoy it but please realize that we cut the report short because the show was already running long and there was so much more to tell about Mayberry Days. It’s hard to cover everything in the length of an episode so this is just a taste of what you really experience at Mayberry Days.  Make plans to be there the first chance you get.

Welcome to the first episode of our 5th year of podcasting!

You are in for a real treat for this episode of year five. Our roaming reporter, Tom Rusk, was able to visit with LeRoy “Mack” McNees for a wonderful interview.  If you don’t know, LeRoy was a member of The Country Boys and appeared on two episodes of The Andy Griffith Show.  “Mayberry on Record” and “Quiet Sam” were the two episodes and LeRoy even had a speaking part on “Mayberry on Record.”

LeRoy is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet in this world so I know you’ll enjoy this episode and it’s a great way to start off year five.

Sit back and enjoy the podcast then head over The eBullet website and subscribe by e-mail or by the rss feed for you computer folks (subscribe to feed), or both.  You don’t want to miss it.

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting made it through the first year of podcast episodes.  What started as a way to publish interviews with cast members that were on iMayberry.com as “Real Audio” files and my desire to turn them into MP3 files so folks could listen has turned in to a weekly Internet radio show about Mayberry.  Two Chairs first year was 52 episodes with just over 11 and a half hours of Mayberry content.

I never dreamed that more would be left to say after the first few episodes.

Thank you to everyone that listens and to all those that have already been a part of the show. I also want to thank my wonderful wife for allowing me to produce a show a week and for hosting the first episode of our second season.

Remember to tell folks about our show and don’t please don’t forget to leave comments or ask questions on the iMayberry.com/podcasts website or by using the contact information given in the podcast. We’d love to have you be a part of our next feedback episode.
