TCNW 442: James Best MD2007

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:27:52

I’ve been cleaning up my Mayberry room here at my house and uncovered a gem. Back in 2007 James Best appeared at Mayberry Days and as part of that appearance he performed at Col Tim’s Talent Time. He started off as the guitar player, Jim Lindsey, but it didn’t take long for the Mayberry Deputy to make him pull rank. What insued was a competion to see who was the best lawman.

James was an amazing friend to Mayberry fans so I’m happy to be able to share this amazing memory. David Browning and the Bests became close friends over the years and I know that David enjoyed sharing the stage with him.

Last episode we have a great “special report” from Kevin Burke about a portion of Mayberry Days 2015.  This week we move on to part 2 of our report on Mayberry Days as I try to cover as much of what happened as possible.

If you watch the video version of the podcast you’ll see a lot of photos taken during the event but even if you just listen, hopefully you will hear how wonderful a trip to Mayberry Days can be for fans of The Andy Griffith Show.

The weekend is always a highlight of my year.  Getting to see friends I’ve made through the internet and through this podcast and visiting with fans of Mayberry.  It is so special and if you walk away from this episode with anything in mind, I hope it will be to make plans to attend Mayberry Days 2016.

Wow…another Mayberry Days event has come and gone. The memories made will bring a smile to my face for many weeks and months to come.  As part of those memories, we’re going to see/hear a “special report” from Kevin Burke.

For those that may not be aware, Kevin Burke is the host of the Burke on Mayberry podcast and was the FIRST Mayberry podcaster!  At the time of this recording, Kevin has done 126 episode of Burke on Mayberry and he was gracious enough to offer up this video report from Andy Griffith’s childhood home.

Kevin and his lovely wife had reservations to stay at Andy’s home place the weekend of Mayberry Days 2015.  They had waited almost 9 years from the time the reservations were made until there was an opening for them.

I don’t usually encourage you to watch the video version of Two Chairs but this is one episode you’ll want to actually watch the video.

I want to thank Neal Brower for allowing me to share this interview series with you here on the podcast and to thank Neil and Pat Coleman for the recorded video of the event.

In the third installment of we experience the third part of this four part series featuring Neal Brower’s interview with Rodney and Doug Dillard, Mitch Jayne, Dean Webb, and Maggie Peterson.  This interview was recorded at Neal’s “Professor Brower’s Class” held during Mayberry Days 2004 in Mt. Airy, NC.

This week we start right off with the snoring scene from “Mountain Wedding” and their memories of filming the scene. It’s a great story to start off the episode and the fun doesn’t stop.  Memories of Charlene in her wedding dress,  “Meat!”, Briscoe courtin’ Aunt Bee, and so many more.

There’s one more part in this interview series and it’s something you will NOT want to miss.  If you messed any of the other episodes of this series, be sure to go back and enjoy all the laughs.

Thank you to Neil and Pat Coleman for the video used in this episode.
