We're checking out the Mayberry Confidential story by Jim Clark that was in the 2011 edition of the Surry Arts Council's publication.

Jim Clark is the Presiding Goober of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club and nobody can capture the spirit of Mayberry like Jim. His story called "Mayberry Rockin' for the Ages" is a wonderful example of what Dr. Harrison Everett Breen was trying to teach us all in "Sermon for Today." Slow down.....what's your hurry?

I hope you'll find a rockin' chair to sit in and visit with family and friends. Those relationships...they're what Mayberry is about. Don't let them pass you by.

Like Andy said at the close of "Return to Mayberry," "To good friends."

Things have changed a little over the years (like the audio quality and having a video version of the show) but I hope the Mayberry spirit continues to flow though from me to you.

I have enjoyed bringing you a little under 41 hours (40.8 hours) of Two Chairs No Waiting over the past 3 years. Thank you to all of you for listening and supporting the show.

The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry are alive and doing well. Thank you all for keeping the Mayberry spirit alive.

Let's talk Mayberry Days! What's Mayberry Days? Oh...if you love, or even enjoy, The Andy Griffith Show you should start now planning a trip to Mt. Airy, NC the last full weekend of September. That's where you'll find an entire town filled with Mayberry fans and folks you'll want to get to know.

I've been going every year since 1993 and I'll tell you that every year it seems to be more fun than the last. It isn't just the Mayberry aspects of the event either. The fans you meet there are the salt of the world and getting to visit with them...well, it's something special.

This episode also marks the end of my 3rd year of podcasting here at Two Chairs No Waiting.

Those of you who aren't able to attend the "live" recording of Two Chairs No Waiting on Monday nights may never have heard of a song called, "The Andy Griffith Show of Women." Well, I recently received permission from David Staples, the writer & performer, to play the song on the podcast.

In David's own words, "The most sincere compliment you could give a woman is to compare her to the greatest show of all time." September 5, 2011 is my 19th wedding anniversary so what better compliment can I pay Jan than to compare her to The Andy Griffith Show.

We're also going to talk about the upcoming Mayberry Days event in Mt. Airy, NC. Mayberry Days is an annual gathering of fans of The Andy Griffith Show and occurs the last full weekend in September each year.

This episode we're going to celebrate Betty Lynn's 85th birthday. Why, you may ask? Well, the day I'm recording is August 29, 2011 which just happens to be Betty's birthday and I though it would be fitting to tell "Thelma Lou" we all said "hey" on this, her special day.

The interview with Betty can be found on YouTube and was done several years ago at Mayberry Days by "Charles." I don't know Charles who but hopefully somebody listening to Two Chairs will be able to let us know so I can give proper credit.

Born Elizabeth Ann Theresa Lynn on August 29, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri, Betty began acting in radio. She was later discovered in a Broadway production and signed to 20th Century Fox. She made her film debut in the 1948 film Sitting Pretty opposite Robert Young. That same year, she appeared in June Bride with Bette Davis followed by roles in Mother Is a Freshman (1949), Cheaper by the Dozen (1950), and Payment on Demand (1951).

In the 1953-1954 television season, Betty was cast as June Wallace, the fictitious sister-in-law of the Ray Bolger character in the ABC sitcom Where's Raymond?

After guest starring on various television series Betty won the role of Thelma Lou on The Andy Griffith Show. She portrayed the role regularly from 1961 until 1965 and made a final guest appearance in one episode during the sixth season(1965–1966).

Following the end of The Andy Griffith Show, Betty continued appearing in various television and film roles. In 1986, she reprised the role of Thelma Lou in the reunion television movie Return to Mayberry in which Thelma Lou and Barney Fife were finally married. In 2006, Lynn retired from acting and relocated to Mount Airy, North Carolina, the hometown of Andy Griffith and the town on which Mayberry was loosely based.

Betty Lynn currently makes monthly appearances at the Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy to sign autographs and meet with her fans.

Follow me on Twitter if you use twitter. I've been posting all kinds of Mayberry things there as another way to let folks know about The Andy Griffith Show.

Each year at Mayberry Days in Mount Airy, NC fans have a chance to attend Professor Brower's Lecture. Neal Brower works his heart out each year to provide Mayberry fans a memorable and special time visiting with those who have touched our lives though The Andy Griffith Show. In September 2010 Neal's guests were Jim Clark and Ken Beck.

Jim Clark is the "Presiding Goober" and one of the founding members of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC).

Ken Beck is a journalist who worked for "The Tennessean" where he edited the "Sunday Showcase" until he stepped away from his 31 years with the Nashville, TN paper.

Together Beck & Clark have touched Mayberry fans everywhere with their books about The Andy Griffith Show. I know you'll enjoy hearing from them as "Professor" Brower draws wonderful information from them.

Neal, of course, has a wonderful book of his own called "Mayberry 101" that you will not want to miss. Neal was the focus of two episodes of this podcast so after you finish listening to him interview Beck & Clark, head back to episodes 50, 51, and 52 to hear his story.

Don't forget to leave comments or ask questions on the TwoChairsNoWaiting.com website or using the contact information given in the podcast.
