Turns out my friend Jimbo made me aware that there's another connection between Gildersleeve and Mayberry. It seems the role of Marjorie, Gildersleeve's niece,  was played from the premiere radio program through 1944 by Lurene Tuttle. Tuttle was known as one of the most versatile actresses on radio, often appearing in 15 shows a week (Marjorie was junior to Tuttle by 20 years). What?  You still don't know who Lurene Tuttle is. Lurene Tuttle played  "the shoplifter" in the The Andy Griffith Show episode The Shoplifter (episode #116). I mentioned this online and our friend from the iMayberry Community, Briscoe Darling, made me aware of something I had never realized.   He let me know that the lady shoplifter was the same lady that played Annabelle Silby in Opie's Charity (episode #8)!  Briscoe's education is certainly worth every penny.
