Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

This is the first of a three part interview with David “The Mayberry Deputy” Browning.  David is the Barney Fife tribute artist who appears at Mayberry Days each year and at other Mayberry events throughout the country.  David was THE Barney who Don Knotts would request to open his “An Evening with Don Knotts” shows as “Barney.”  That alone says a lot about the David and his portrayal of the Mayberry deputy character.

In this segment of the interview with David he speaks about how he started as The Mayberry Deputy and about working with Mr. Knotts.

Allan: What a fantastic interview with David Browning. My favorite remembrance of David is back when I was practicing medicine. Phil Lee (aka Ernest T. Bass) was a drug rep that called on my office. We had gotten to be good friends and he was the reason I had started going to Mayberry Days. I had always sort of been in awe of David and his talent and one day when I came into the office David was standing there in full Barney Fife get up. He was accompanying Phil that day to help promote his product. Meeting him in private that day and talking for a while was a thrill for me (IT WAS BIG!). Of course we had to take the obligatory photograph. How lucky we all are to have him. Bob

Hi Allan: I really enjoyed the interview with David Browning. Next to Don Knotts he is my favorite Barney Fife, The first time I saw him at Mayberry Days I thought to myself this guy is real good!! I also was privilege to see Don Knotts and David Browning perform together, the best of both worlds!! David & Patty his wife are both great people and are willing to help where needed. I started a ministry in 2007 as Fearless Fife and needed a Barney cap, I had looked everywhere so I called David up and left a message about trying to find a cap. Patty called back and gladly gave me the information I needed. May God continue to bless David & Patty Browning. Thanks, Ronnie
