Two Chairs No Waiting 73: Typecasting in Roles

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:10:39

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Opryland in Nashville, TN presented a Mayberry Reunion back in 1991.  In this episode we hear from some of the cast of The Andy Griffith Show that were present for a press conference held just before they began the reunion shows held over the course of a weekend.  We’ll have more clips from this press conference in the coming episodes so be sure to stick around.

The question being addressed in this show is, “Do you feel you were typecast because of your role on The Andy Griffith Show? Also, address any negatives or positives related to your role.”

You’ll hear the following folks answering these questions in this order: Rodney “Darling” Dillard, George “Goober” Lindsey, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson, Hal “Otis” Smith, and Jack “Rafe Hollister” Prince.  George and Betty speak more than one time each but I’m sure you’ll recognize their voices as you listen.

    Allan,
Loved the podcast tonight. It is always so great to hear the actual voices of the cast members. I became a bit melancholy when Betty Lynn talked about wanting to be at the set when others were working. The reality of it being a TV production hit me. The program is always so real and the characters are such a part of our lives that it is almost impossible to think about the shows being filmed in small segments and then being put together to make an episode. Mayberry and its people are so real to me that I just can’t think of it as a TV production. Looking forward to hearing more from cast members. Glad you mentioned about Don Knotts being there and just not saying anything about that question. I was wondering why we didn’t hear from him. What a great thing to have those interviews recorded so we can all enjoy them for years to come.

I really enjoy this kind of podcast. It is somewhat personal, like the cast members are talking to me. Great to hear their voices. Great job and I really do appreciate these podcast. While I am listening and catching up with all of these episodes…in my spare time I am also ready “Goober in a Nutshell” , Man Mr. Lindsey tells it all, a great autobiography. Well, that’s it for tonight got to hit the sack !
