Professor Brower concludes his interview with Jim Clark and Ken Beck.  If you messed the last episode, go back and give part one of this interview a listen because we already found out where The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) got its name, how Beck & Clark became friends, and why TAGSRWC had a newsletter.  That’s just some of what we learned.

In this episode we find out how the guys became writing partners, why they write cookbooks, how Mayberry has impacted their lives and so much more.

We own Jim and Ken so much for the things Mayberry fans have had the chance to share with one another over the years.  Without these guys this podcast would most likely not exist nor would iMayberry.com or so many other things we, as fans, take for granted.

Thank you Jim Clark and Ken Beck.  You’ve been a blessing to us all.

As review from last week:

Jim Clark is the “Presiding Goober” and one of the founding members of TAGSRWC.

Ken Beck is a journalist who worked for “The Tennessean” where he edited the “Sunday Showcase” until he stepped away from his 31 years with the Nashville, TN paper.

Together Beck & Clark have touched Mayberry fans everywhere with their books about The Andy Griffith Show. I know you’ll enjoy hearing from them as “Professor” Brower draws wonderful information from them.

Neal, of course, has a wonderful book of his own called “Mayberry 101” that you will not want to miss. Neal was the focus of two episodes of this podcast so after you finish listening to him interview Beck & Clark, head back to episodes 50, 51, and 52 to hear his story.

We’re heading back into the archives of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) to read about Mayberry folks from the mountains around town. The story is from “The Bullet,” the official newsletter of TAGSRWC, volume 1 issue 2 (March 18, 1983). This is a fun trip back down memory lane to the very early days of TAGSRWC.

We also hear from a caller who lets us know that Richard “Doc” Ferrara (one of the subjects of our last episode – #121) was mentioned on The Andy Griffith show episode “Ernest T. Bass Joins the Army.”

Last week we spoke of TAGSRWCs 30th Anniversary and this week I’m following up with the “Who’s Been Messin’ Up the Bulletin Board?” Chapter’s 18th Anniversary.  I’ll talk a bit about the WBMUTBB Chapter but to give you a heads up, it was the first official online chapter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers club and over time has produced to date 4,966 editions of the WBMUTBB Digest daily newsletter.

Don’t worry…I’m going to throw in some trivia for you to test yourself with as well.  Not just ANY trivia either. This will be a few questions from the “Super Bowl of Mayberry Trivia” held each year during Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy, NC.  These questions are HARD so don’t feel bad if you don’t know them.  I’ll throw in an easy one or two so folks like me can feel good about getting one right.

Don’t forget to leave comments or ask questions on the iMayberry.com/podcasts website or using the contact information given in the podcast. We’d love to have you be a part of our next feedback episode.

My goodness.  I almost let all of 2009 go by without doing an episode about The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) and that’s unMayberry-like of me.  After all, 2009 marks the 30th Andy-versery of the “Rerun Watchers Club” being established at Vanderbilt Universary in Nashville, TN.  TAGSRWC began in the fall of 1979 and within a short time the club, though still informal, had grown considerably.

From October 3, 1982 until the 2001 the official Newsletter of The Andy Grifffith Show Rerun Watchers Club was The Bullet. In June 2001 the club made the move to an electronic newsletter called The eBullet but continued to publish a smaller print newsletter called “The Pocket” (named for where Barney kept the bullet).

There are currently 10,919 subscribers to The eBullet and The Pocket is no longer printed replaced by an even smaller one page flyer called “The Button.”

As TAGSRWC closes out the 30th year as an organization the love for the show that members love continues to grow. New members, both young and old, continue to join and the total number of chapters founded has grown to 1,348.  An official Facebook Fan Page was founded on October 3, 2009 to mark the 30th anniversary of TAGSRWC creation and is already approaching the 1000 fan mark (774 as I write this note).
