Howard Spraque (Jack Dodson) is Mayberry's efficient county clerk. "I have my fingers on the pulse of whatever happens in the county," he says. He lives with his mother until she remarries and moves away.
By then Howard is already a member of The Regal Order of the Golden Door to Good Fellowship. He also sings high tenor in Mayberry's barbershop quartet (he later becomes the landlord for Floyd's Barbershop) and is a member of the Town Council.
On top of that, Howard has bowled Mayberry's only perfet game.
