Otis Campbell (Hal Smith) is one of Mayberry's most popular and spirited citizens. Like his brother Ralph in Memphis, Otis is the town drunk. But he's a happy fellow. The Mayberry jail is really his home away from home (he even has his own key).
His wife, Rita, keeps him in line at home. After all, he has his heritage to consider. He's the closest living descendant of Revolutionary War hero Nathan Tibbs. He also can't afford to risk his job as a glue-dipper at the furniture factory.
As for recreation, Otis explains: "I got a hobby - drinking."
