February 27, 2006 - Msg 1371: I hope Don was led into heaven in a motorcycle sidecar being sereneded by the chorus of a flock of red-crested lake loons. I'm a college prof and several years ago had a group of students who would always come to a 12:30 class just a few minutes late and when I finally asked them why they were always late, they said it was because they always watched Andy Griffith reruns at lunch and the show didn't end until the start time for class. Then, partway through the semester, they started showing up on time and when I asked why, they responded that the reruns had morphed into "the Warren years" and they were only interested in watching Barney episodes. So Don created and continues to create generations of new fans. He will be missed.

Rest in peace, Barney the beast.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1394: In my childhood, the Andy Griffith show was my favorite television program mainly due to Don Knotts- he was always hysterical! I also enjoyed all of his later movies... he was truly a fabulous entertainer and never disappointed. A few years ago, I was invited to create an illustration of my all-time favorite movie for a traveling art exhibition. I used this opportunity to pay tribute to my favorite comedian, Don Knotts in the Ghost and Mr. Chicken. I also payed homage to my favorite televison show (the Andy Griffith Show) by replacing the young Mrs. Simmons' portrait with one of Aunt Bea (Frances Bavier). This painting can be seen at the following link:

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1412: Don Knotts was a jewel. "Barney" was what made the "Andy Griffin Show". The show is aired on Saturday evenings on one our local stations. I try not to miss it. February 27, 2006 - Msg 1473: Don Knott's passing is sorrowful for our whole family. He brought us many moments of laughter. I am one who enjoys laughing and since I picture everything in my mind; many of his episodes are really implanted in my mind. There is no one that can measure up to his talent for comedy. ( I wonder why the new producers of so called comedy on today's T.V. programs do not take a lesson from this and realize that what most people really like is CLEAN comedy.) Don Knotts will be sorely missed. I know God has already blessed him with a wonderful home in heaven. Lily Mailloux

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1474: The true comedians are always remembered for making laugh at our human nature in a kind way. Rest well Barney, you have earned your rest. We will miss you.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1476: Dear Knotts family,
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for sharing "Barney" with the rest of the world. He has meant so much to me over the years and I was so proud to introduce him to my son at an early age. He was and continues to truly be a blessing to my family.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1477: I too am a BIG fan of Mr. Don Knotts and still watch the Andy Griffith reruns. Everyone was for Barney! He was not the biggest or toughest of them all but you just liked him. His interaction with Ernest T. Bass is priceless! So maybe he is out fishing at Meyers Lake or going out with Thelma Lou (dutch of course) or maybe he's hanging out at Wally's having a bottle of pop with Goober and/or Gomer. Maybe he's waiting to get a haircut at Floyd's or deputizing Otis Campbell and Gomer! In my mind he will always sit in the chair next to Andy in the courthouse! So long Barn and thanks for making us laugh!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1478: To the Knotts family: My condolences go out to you and your family. Don Knotts was an extraordinary actor. One that will always be remembered. Don Knotts will always have a special place in my heart for the way he has impacted my life through his comedy.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1479: "Barney" I have a 5 year old and a a 13 month old. God bless you! I am so thankful for you life. I am 42 years old and as long as I can remember I have been watching you and Andy. Long live the reruns!!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1480: I was raised in a small North Carolina mountain town only 30 miles from Mt. Airy, NC., and was about the same age as "Opie". My family watched every original epidsode of TAGS. Over the years we've shared our memories of the original shows with our own children and grandchildren. "Andy" still comes on our local station each afternoon right before the local news and my wife and I laugh as hard as we did as kids some 40 years ago, even though we've seen every show dozens of times. As many others have said, it broke my heart to know that "Barn" had left his post at the "rock", jaywalked across the street, hopped on his "motorsickle", carrying a jar of "kerosene pickles" and rode off to the promised TVland. As he left for the Pearly Gates you could see him waving good-bye to "winken, blinken, and nod", "Mr. Mcbeevee", and "the Fun Girls". The streets were lined with all his friends---Ange, Aunt Bea, Opie, Floyd, Howard, Helen, Thelma Lou, Goober, Gomer, Ernest T, the Darlings, and dear drunk Otis,---as he rode by; silver bullet in his pocket. Never has one show given us the true heart and soul of small-town American life and never has one actor given us the best "character" ever to live in that town. God Bless you, Barn, and all the folks that live in "Mayberry".

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1481: Enjoyed the wittiness and shaky characteristics he displayed. I loved his ability to overcome the obsticles that he faced in each character he portrayed. He was a very great actor and will be extremely missed. God bless you Barn (Don Knotts). JA. Louisiana.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1485: Barney Fife Is Dead

I don’t know about you, but I was saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved deputy here in Mayberry. We all knew he only had one bullet with him, in his pocket, to cause less havoc than possible in case of a real emergency. But we loved him in spite of himself because of what he stood for. Let me share a few reasons why I loved Barney so much.
First, Barney was a faithful friend. His devotion to Andy Taylor was epic. There was nothing he would not do for his friend. This reminds me of how Jesus wants us to treat our friends.
Second, Barney was a believer. The guy even sung marginal tenor in the church choir. What a guy. He wasn’t Pavoratti, but he showed up for practice and sang his part. This is all Jesus expects of us, isn’t it?
Third, Barney was monotonous, well, no, he was monoga-mous in his love life. Thelma Lou was his gal and he had eyes for nobody else. Even some Christian couples need to learn this biblical principle.
Fourth, Barney would go the extra mile, something Jesus clearly taught during his ministry. One time Barney thought Andy was getting married at the Justice of the Peace when all he wanted was money for a fishing fine. Barney brought Aunt Bea, Opie, and flowers for the occasion.
Fifth, Fife had confidence in his principles. He may have been wrong now and then, but at least he lived by what he thought was right. This, too, is all God can expect from us. We can only do what we know is right.
Sixth, Barney had some quirks and eccentricities, yet because of his transparent and humble spirit, everybody seemed to love him. Surely that is also a godly trait.
Seventh, Deputy Fife was at his post and ready for whatever the day might offer. He met each challenge with gusto and enthusiasm, even if he didn’t grasp the significance of many.
So, will you, with me, say a little prayer of thanksgiving for the Barney Fifes that we meet along life’s pathway?

--Steven Clark Goad

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1492: It's just starting to hit me that Don has passed away. I have been an admirer of his since the late seventies, and will continue to enjoy his work for years to come. I was able to meet Mr. Knotts in 1995 in Winston-Salem, NC at a fan gathering. I was so nervous about meeting him, and was so afraid that I might find out that my hero was a jerk. I shouldn't have worried, as Don was so gracious, amiable, and accessable that he immediately put me at ease. He was every bit as kind as I hoped he would be. Godspeed, Don Knotts.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1496: When someone from the entertainment world passes away like Don Knotts and it makes you feel like you have lost a member of the family or a close friend, then you know that their talent was truly a gift from God. The news has really "nipped a bud" in all of our hearts. We thank God for using Don Knotts to bring joy and laughter into our lives. I heard on the radio today that Andy was by his side when Don went to be with the Lord. Not even the writers of TAGS could have written such a fitting final "episode" to the one of the best comedic teams ever! May God bring comfort to Don's family and many friends all over the world.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1504: I am truly saddened by Don's passing. I remember once at a very difficult point in my life that the Andy Griffith Show was all I had to laugh at. I used to arrange my schedule so I could see it every night at dinner time. (When I could afford dinner) I had to give up cable, but fortunately I was living in Atlanta at the time and could still get TAGS on TBS. Don's family can be very proud of him for all the joy he brought to millions of people. God bless his family! One of my favorite things about Don was that his parts were virtually all good, clean fun. One of my favorite movies that sometimes people forget to mention is "How to Frame a Figg." We will miss you Don, but "The Legend" lives on in our hearts, minds and, of course, our DVD's and VCR's!!!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1514: Just shows to go you that a simplistic person with true values can have a great impact on the public. I don't believe that entertainment has to have "raw content" to be believable and enjoyable. Don Knotts and Andy Griffith were pure examples of clean entertainment. What they are passing off as entertainment today ONLY TAKES pure egos, raw material, and disregard for the American families. Shock Jocks and shock entertainment is what is put out there today as valued entertainment and I disagree with this concept. I believe that the REAL TALENTED people are people who can entertain the family by keeping their clothes on and really using their God-given talent to entertain. Mayberry was an excellent example of good writers and good acting. Today's entertainment is "no-talent" shock value which is promoted as talent!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1516: Early last week I learned of the passing of an old family friend, and then on Saturday I learned of the passing of Don Knotts. Surprisingly, I was much more saddened by the loss of Don Knotts. Rarely a day goes by that I don't watch at least one episode of The Andy Griffith Show (I own the five seasons released on DVD). Knowing that Don Knotts and Andy Griffith were true friends in 'real life' makes each episode that much better. For Christmas I was delighted to receive the 'Don Knotts Reluctant Hero' DVD set ~ nbobody can match or replace Don Knotts aka Barney Fife, Luther Heggs etc etc. My daughter is 14 and watches both TAGS and the movies with me as well, and while my husband claims not to like TAGS, he never fails to laugh at Barney's antics or comments. I hope Don knew how much he was loved and will continue to be watched and laughed with by generations to come.
