February 27, 2006 - Msg 1867: I posted a message on miss crumps bulletin board and couldn't let it go at that the message said, Barney Fife was and is my hero. Don Knotts was a hero to me, he made me laugh when I thought laughter was the last thing I could do. Not only as Barney Fife but as Mr. Furley, the reluctant astronaut, the ghost and mr. chicken and the incredible mr limpet. Don will be sorely missed in my life I never miss a rerun of TAGS, and I have recently started a collection of TAGS dvds. so Don may be gone in body but his spirit and greatness lives on. February 27, 2006 - Msg 1894: We shall meet, but we shall miss him
There will be one vacant chair
We shall linger to caress him
While we breathe our evening prayer;
When a year ago we gathered
Joy was in his mild blue eye,
But a golden chord is severed
And our hopes in ruin lie.

We shall meet, but we shall miss him
There will be one vacant chair
We shall linger to caress him
While we breathe our evening prayer;

At our fireside, sad and lonely,
Often will the bosom swell,
At remembrance of the story
How our noble Willie sell;
How he strove to bear our banner
Through the thickest of the fight,
And uphold our country's honor
In the strength of manhood's night.

True, they tell us wreaths of glory
Ever more will deck his brow,
But this soothes the anguish only
Sweeping o'er our heartstrings now.
Sleep today, Oh early fallen,
In thy green and narrow bed,
Dirges from the pine and cypress,
Mingle with the tears we shed.

I can't tell you how many times I have watched The Andy Griffith Show, and every time I watch the show its just as funny as the first time I saw it. Nothing but good wholesome entertainment, no foul language or anything like that, just quality comedy. My favorite episode is, #74 "Convicts at Large". This episode showcases the two funnest actors on the show, Barn & Floyd. Now Barn & Floyd are together again, and maybe someday we all can be in Mayberry together. Rest in Peace Barn.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1916: Some of my very earliest memories are of watching TAGS (original airings) on TV. Today, I watch the show almost every night. Recently, I was watching and thinking about the fact that Barney and Andy both were getting on up there. I was so saddened to hear of Don Knotts' passing. He was mostly hilarious and proud as Barney, but occasionally very warm, tender and full of humility, like in the episode where he has to testify "against" Andy and winds up testifying how Andy enforces the law "...not so much by the book but by the heart, something he's been trying to teach me from the moment I came to work here."

What a great show. What a great talent.

I got a kick out of seeing them get a captivated and giggling at Don Knotts and the movie. They didn't know anything about World War II, they never heard of Don Knotts before, and the scenery was nothing in the present day lives. I suppose if I were an actor the greatest complement would be to know that my work would be enjoyed and remembered long after I was gone, and this I'm sure that Don Knotts new; he earned it. He left us all the most generous of gifts: lifetimes of recollections of the best of what life has to offer. For many of us, Mayberry was, and is, the place we yearn for. It's Barney, and Andy, and Goober and Howard, and Floyd, and Aunt Bea, and Opie--sharing Sunday pops on Andy's front porch--gloriously oblivious to the bustling world beyond. I miss you, Barn.

In a time when the world is consumed by taking, Don Knotts GAVE! He gave us Barney Fife, and I am truly thankful. Michael Pollock, Camilla, Georgia

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1938: My childhood sucked. Rotten parents, poor, drug and violence infested neighborhood, but every day I would come home and watch The Andy Griffith show and it made me think that the world wasn't such a bad place. Used to imagine living there, and it was swell. Thanks Barnie for giving me that.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1939: My kids were raised on the real Barney, the Black & White one, not that silly purple dinosaur.

What a wonderful laugh filled life Don gave us all!

Thanks for the joy and the fun you gave us.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1940: As part of my college years my roomates and I would schedule our classes around the Andy Griffith Show so that we wouldn't miss an episode. We would quiz each other on Mayberry trivia. Don Knotts as Barney will forever go down in history as Matt, Red, Scottie, and Brents college routine. I was saddened to hear on Don's passing. He will truly be missed. Thanks again Barney for all the memories.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1941: I have to say I am a proud southern girl and I live in a town SO much like Mayberry. Our city patrol cars are even painted like the Mayberry patrol cars. Andy and Barney thanks for showing the world that we southerners are to be envied for our big front porches and leisurely Sunday afternoons. Don Knotts will always remain in our hearts and memories. We love you Don !!! Ruth Anne, small town in upstate South Carolina

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1942: Dep. Fife, Barney, Mayberry Sheriff's Office, E.O.W. (End of Watch) 02-24-06. Godspeed, Barn. All patrol cars are going to be a little lonelier without you.
Mr. Knotts, it was a pleasure growing up watching your movies and television shows. You were always a class act. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1943: Though Don made my day many times through his role of Barney Fife, I have only one personal memory of him. He wasn't aware of my presence but I was priviledged to actually see him in person. Frank and I had just picked up our son and his fiance from Bob Jones University and on the way home decided to visit the Builtmoore House. While on the lower level, in the pantry, I believe, I looked out a window and saw Don Knotts and Tim Conway. They were outside the house on the patio filming a scene of "The Private Eyes" We were all thrilled to see them if only through a window.
That really made my day!!
Rest In Peace Dear Barney, your work here is done!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1946: I'm 42 years old. My dad introduced me to the show as I have my son. It's a sacred right of passage in our house. Don was the straw that stirred the drink! He'll ride through the pearly gates on his motorcycle wearing his goggles and helmet, with Juanita from the diner in his sidecar, and a single bullet in his pocket. And when he arrives he'll be able to sing Santa Lucia on his own without the need for help from behind the curtain. There he'll play catch with Ernest T Bass, Get a haircut from Floyd, and then sit down to a GOOD homemade pickels by Aunt Bea! Yo Barney - You're the man!!! Chris in Longview, Texas

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1947: To the Knotts family go our deepest sympathies during this time of mourning.
Please take comfort in knowing that Don Knotts brought joy to millions of people worldwide, including me and my son. Not a day goes by in which we don't watch Don on the Andy Griffith Show.
He was a great preformer and he will be missed, BUT HE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1948: What more can I say that hasn't already been said? I have sensed sadness before at hearing the news of an actor, actress or athlete that has passed away. Never before, though, until now at 43, have I sensed such a loss about a person that I never knew. February 27, 2006 - Msg 1953: I grew up with Mayberry and Don Knotts. After I was married, my wonderful wife located and purchased every episode available of The Andy Griffith show on VHS for Christmas. That was a wonderful Christmas and in all the years since we have watched those tapes countless times. My young children are growing up with Mayberry, too. A few years ago I discovered the bible lessons based on TAGS and the kids have learned many wonderful values from watching. And now my wife is buying me the DVD releases as they become available. Guess my grandkids and great-grandkids will grow up with Mayberry too. Mr. Knotts will be terribly missed at our house, but will entertain and teach those marvelous core values for generations to come. Heaven is a little funnier now. Peace be with Don's family and with Andy Griffith.

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1965: February 27, 2006 - Msg 1946: Don Knotts, a gentle man and a true gentleman. His Barney Fife showed that an "everyman" was anything but - at once full of shaky bravado and genuine tenderness wrapped in a vunerability we understood all too well. He spoke to us through Fife's foibles which we recognized and more importantly, helped us understand each other a little better. What a treasure - I hope he knew how beloved he was and will be forever. My sincere condolences to the Knotts family.
Don Knotts, you will live forever in us all...

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1966: I was saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Knotts. He was a comic genius in my opinion, and underrated as an actor in general. I saw Andy Griffith mention on the Larry King show that Mr. Knotts could easily have played more serious roles if given the opportunity. His humor was medicine to my soul. I have a strong attachment to the Andy Griffith show, as do my kids. That’s amazing considering I was only 6 years old when it went off the air. It remains as powerful today as ever because it is a brilliantly acted and morally driven program. God’s speed Mr. Knotts. Take your final bow, because you richly deserve it… (SL --- Indianapolis, IN)

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1967: Jesse Donald Knotts,

You have meant so much to me and my family! You are one of the members of that small group of actors who has the ability to entertain with original and believable precision. We were blessed to have you here for 81 years. I pray that more entertainers will surface that continue the wholesome brand of humor that you were so good at.

Be blessed my friend!

I fear that this is a genre that is gone other than in dvd collections and reruns. I wish that todays producers would visit this site and realize what a treasure Don Knotts was and how they should use the positive and wholesome image he portraid to form the next generation of television.

May God bless Don and his family!

February 27, 2006 - Msg 1974: Don Knotts was one of the great physical comedians of last 50 years. He used everything--his body, his face, his voice to create moments of comedy that will live on and influence many others. To me, Barney Fife is the greatest tv character of all time.

February 28, 2006 - Msg 1976: Watching the Andy Griffth Show and Don Knotts as Barney Fife made laugh the hardest. I can always rely on having a good laugh when it came to Don Knotts. Tim Conway said it best when asked about working with Don Knotts, "The man made me laugh".
I was fortnate to meet Mr. Knotts and thanked him for all the laughter. Alot of my heros are passed or passing and I was not going to miss meeting a living legend. I was at an event where autographs could be attained and there was current stars and playmates and big name stars such as Val Kilmer, Tanya Roberts but the one person that had the longest line that extended outside the building and around it was Mr. Don Knotts. That symbol of the long line is a tribute to the strength and lasting power of a STAR.
My Uncle Bill always reminded me of Don Knotts and vice versa and I had Mr. Knotts sign a picture to give my Uncle Bill some time ago. It is interesting that my Uncle passed away exactly one month ago to the day. There is a connection?
Goodbye Mr. Knotts. The heavens will be filled with laughter for a long time.

February 28, 2006 - Msg 1986: Funniest bit ever on TV is when Barney proves what a great memory he has and recites the Preamble to the (you know what...can't say it without being censored) to Andy, but gets not a single word correct without being coached by Andy, including the "the" "a" and "for". Knotts and Howard Morris, in my opinion, gave the world the two best TV sitcom charaters in Barney Fife and Ernest T. Bass. Been watching since the beginning Barn, and will continue to do so.
