I grew up watching the Andy Griffith show and it was both entertaining and thought provoking. Don Knotts was the only one who could take that roll and make it his. His character was quirky, comedic and yet loveable and naive. Many good memories are still in my mind about that show and all it's memebers. So long one bullet copper. May you crack them up in heaven. Karla G Charles City, IA

First time I saw Don Knott's and Andy Griffiths together, was when I went to the movie, "No Time For Sergeant's" in 1958, just before we moved back to England with my Mother. They made good movies in those days. Hollywood has really gone downhill since then.
I wanted to write to Don Knotts and thank him for giving us so many laughs over the years, but he left us before I could write the letter. We never had the Andy Griffiths Show on TV when I lived in England, so it was a pleasant experience when I returned to America after my hitch in the Army and could watch this great show each week.
Thanks Don for entertaining us and for the laughs you gave us through the years. How would we ever have got through the 60's without Barney Fife? If Andy Griffith's is reading this, thank you too Andy. And you Gomer and Goob and the rest of the gang in Mayberry.

Thanks Barn, (Don)
We'll never forget you. Generations from now young people will still be falling in love with your comedic genius. As a youngster in the late 50s and early 60s I came to love the Andy Griffith show in general and Don Knott's Barney Fife character in particular. My children, who are all grown, also loved the show. I taped scores of episodes from TV reruns and they wore them out. They will have them now for their children on DVD and another generation will adore the antics of Andy, Barn, Aunt Bee, Opie, Goober, Floyd and all.
May Don rest eternally in peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was truly a blessing to have Don Knotts with us for a time. It's comforting knowing that there was once a simpler time, when right and wrong was either but not both...when you could make mistakes and be forgiven them by loving friends and neighbors...when laughter came along with life lessons that always made you feel good when the show was over.
I thank the good Lord for those days and earnestly wish I could get them back. The AGS was television at its finest, as were its' actors. God's Speed Don.

You never know what you got until you lost it. Now that Don is gone, we're all rediscovering what a great actor and comedian he was. He made the role of Barney Fife a REAL character. Many of his 60's contemporaries used site gags to get the laughs. With Barney, you couldn't help but laugh before he even did anything. He was that real and funny. If they did a modern movie remake of the Andy Griffith show, no one could fill those shoes of the Legendary Barney Fife. Now we all reflect, old and young, how he represented the average joe American and the warmth that TV show gave us.

To Don: I believe Andy Griffith knew talent when he saw it. That's why he placed you on TAGS. I don't believe in his wildest imagination he knew how wonderful the chemistry between you two would come across on the show. It was magic. I know Andy and Don were the type of friends in real life that would do anything for each other just like Andy and Barney. Thanks for the times you've given to all of us. John in Henderson, NV

I am 28 years old and when I watch the Andy Griffith Show (which is at least 2-3 times a week) I wish I could have grown up in the 60's. This is due to Don Knotts and Andy Griffith and how they made that time seem so peaceful and easy going. I can't say anything about Don Knotts that someone else hasn't already said, so that being said, he is my favorite actor and is the reason the A.G. show is what it is. If more shows today were like it, the country wouldn't be in the shape it's currently in. Thanks for the laughs Don. Reagan Teel, Terrell, Texas.

I pray that God may have a special place in heaven for you and thank you for all the memories you have left me with-God speed Mr. Knotts.

God Bless Don Knotts and thank heavens for re-runs. Just a couple of weekends ago...I was not feeling well and watching the tube most of the day. My husband came in and sure enough found me watching Andy and Barney. He looked at me and said, "It don't get much better then this for you does it?" And he was right. He knows I love the show and that it reminds me of my childhood cause Andy always reminded me of my Dad and he and Don together...well, the show is like comfort food for me. I felt a real sadness and loss when I heard that Don was gone. My thoughts are with his family and friends. What a blessing! With Mayberry forever in our hearts...Thanks Don!!!Love, K.A. I have been a Deputy Sheriff for 20 years and there has not been a day that has past where I didn't look at the picture of Barney that I have in my work cubical. Don Knotts touched my heart and now my heart is broken knowing he is gone. He will never be forgotten! Detective SB W-stock, SSD

I became an instant Don Knotts fan with the Apple Dumpling Gang when I saw it at the movies at the age of seven. Next I believe was the Private Eyes and the Prize Fighter. I don't remember the first time I saw TAGS, but I have never stopped watching. Just as so many other fans, I still watch it whenever I can and still believe it is the BEST tv show ever. I am also watching the marathon on TV Land right now also. I want to not only thank Mr. Knotts for his wonderful ability to make me and my family smile, but also for his service as a WWII veteran. I never got to meet Mr. Knotts, but did get to see Tim Conway and he in thier comedy routine a couple of years ago. My family's thoughts and prayers go to Mr. Knotts and his family. Here I am, at age 59, sitting at my computer while watching the TV Land tribute to Don Knotts. I've seen every episode dozens of times, but the connection to my childhood is so real that I can almost feel myself back in my late parents' living room on Monday nights, tuned in to CBS to watch Andy and Barney. Andy (which he easily admitted) played straight man to Barney who stole the show. How sad that the Mayberry Spring Concert will be without it's favorite baritone??? singing "Welcome Sweet Springtime, we greet you in song...Balmy and light (lower, Barney)...Balmy and light (lower). Who can forget those great moments: "Nip it in the bud;" "Citizen's Arrest;" "Here at the Rock we have two rules...the first rule is...Obey all rules;" "Hey Ange;" "Nita...Juan..ita." We will miss him, a gentle, humble man who has a special place in Heaven.

Barney of Mayberry
Taking time to cry for the one who made us laugh
Andy’s tailor alters his only suit
transforming it from a wedding one
to one befitting a funeral.
Gomer’s pile of discarded Kleenex
grows more mountain-like
by the moment.
It’s all because Barney’s fife
remains in its case
having sounded its last note.
The community band
of trumpets and tubas,
of clarinets and flutes
will never seem the same.
Yes, Mayberry’s loveable deputy
has turned in his badge for good.
The carefree tar-heel town
is jailed by sorrow today.
Aunt Bea and Otis
and Goober and Floyd
are searching in vain for the key.
It’s no wonder
Mayberry’s resident whistler is silent.
Even Opie’s at a loss for words.
But then, so are the rest of us.
Those big bulging eyes
and high piercing voice
won our innocent hearts
in a much simpler time.
But that was then
and now is now.
The death of Don knots our guts.
It lumps our throats.
The one who made us laugh so loud
now causes us to cry.
Peace to your memory, Barn.

Don Knotts is probably one of the great television reminders of what America once was and hopefully will be again: character and commitment even though you're scared spitless, devotion to duty, and loyalty to a friend. Watching Barney Fife brings sweet memories of sitting on the porch Sunday afternoons after church, dinners surrounded by loved ones, and the family sing along.
