I grew up watching great sitcoms such as The Andy Griffith Show, and I still watch them. There are several reasons why I watch the Andy Griffith Show, but the # one reason was the moral quality it had. Some of the other reasons are the humor, the caring for each other, the great sense of love that Andy had for Opie, Aunt Bee, and all the Mayberry residents, and last but not least his trusty sidekick, Dupty Bareny Fife. Barney always made you feel like he was your best friend, and he was truly the heartbeat of the show. Thanks for all the fond memories, and with all the memorial's that have been posted, well that speaks for itself. May you rest in peace. This world is not the same!

I cannot express enough my appreciation for a television show that brings soooo much laughter over and over. Never has there been a show or character where the humor was so true and unique.
Barney didn't have to do much to bring out a laugh. So often it was just a look! The combination of that with skillful physical humor and great writing produced a comedy genius. Don Knotts was born to play Barney
But I have seen the shows over through the years and it still makes me laugh, just knowing what is coming up. The writing was fabulous! And no show can compare to it today. Television writing is so different, it's not natural and there's just too much competition for an audience, much less a legacy.
God bless you Barney!!

Eventhough I grew up watching you as the Land Lord in the late 1970's comedy THREE'S COMPANY, & I really considered you to be very funny, to me nothing quite leaves a special place in my heart for you as Deputy Barney Fife in THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW.
It was clean without being dirty. That 1960's classic never needed to be dirty to be funny...Unlike comedies today! & T.A.G.S. Taught basic small town family values, as much as it provided laughs!
You're missed very dearly! Thanks for being Barney!

I often like to say, that THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW is like HEAVEN ON EARTH...& May you find your Mayberry in Heaven!
Just like the fictional beloved town of MAYBERRY N.C., there were good friends, values, fun, laughter, no pain...& countless fun! May heaven now be that kind of place for you!
I'll 4-ever miss you...I know I'll miss Andy Griffith when he eventually will pass on...You two guys were like brothers in arms, your friendship was special...& although fans will miss him, as we missed you...
2 great beloved friends will be reunited in God's Kingdom!
The Andy Griffith Show & your role as Barney Fife, shall live in my heart forever til my final days! Love you Mr. Knotts...Thanks for being Barney!

My son started watching Andy this year (he's 8) almost nightly. My wife and I BOTH noticed an almost remarkable change in his behavior from when he was watching Cartoon Network, etc. Much more affectionate toward me. More of a desire to please us and not disappoint us. He has always been a good kid, but his attitude has become more consistently positive. I attribute this to maturation, somewhat, but also to TAGS. Thank you, Don. Thank you TAGS. There will never be a better show. Ever.

I see no reason to end this memorial. What is it to anyone that people want to express gratitude to a man who dedicated his young acting life to give us genuine simplicity and unique humor in a time (the 60's) when life wasn't simple. When I want pure, undefiled entertainment, The Andy Griffith Show is the ONLY thing that gets put on my television. When I've had a very stressing week, I crawl into bed, turn out the lights, and junk out on TAGS. Call me a boob, call me ignorant, but I surely feel better joining the hundreds of other ignorant boobs who wrote expressing their sincere thoughts on how TAGS influence their life. The rest of us are better people because the TAGS!
November 02, 2006 - Msg 4609:
One of my favorite scenes from "The Andy Griffith Show" is the opening scene from the episode, "The Luck of Newton Monroe." Andy and Barney are sitting on the front porch on a Sunday. Barney captures a fly, holds it in his hand for a second or two, then lets it go, saying, "Well, it's Sunday." So simple, so charming, so full of grace, like so many other scenes from what I see as the greatest television show ever made.
Thank you to anyone who had anything to do with that wonderful show. It has made the world a better place.

Here is my tribute poem to Don
Only Memories Can Heal The Sorrow
Time has passed, Barn's gone a separate way
But my love for him remains to this day
For the memories he has left me lie deep in my heart
Juast time alone can'y make them part
He made me laugh, he made me smile
He made me forget about life for a while
I was taken to a place where I could only dream to be
In a friendly, peaceful town called Mayberry
Where things were so simple but so full of life
With Andy and Opie, Aunt Bea and Deputy Fife
They'd sit on the front porch and fill the air with song
Friends till the end, no matter what went wrong
I don't have to tell you, you probably know
Memories like this are so hard to let go
But it's a healing thing that will just take time
Barn's forever in my heart, forever on my mind
So I'll deal with the pain, I'll deal with the sorrow
Wondering if there will be a better tomorrow
But life has to go on and I'll always remember the man
With a bullet in his pocket, and a gun in his hand
Joe

I was never given the priviledge in my life to meet Don Knotts in person. But, I did know Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife. I am a true TAGS fan mostly due to the body of work of Barney. From his first car experience to His hearty "HO, Ho, HO, Merry Christmas!"...From his trying to fight Jeff Pruitt for Thelma Lou's hand to his continually trying to get Andy married off we have grown up watching and admiring this man's ability to suspend reality. The greatest work of Barney Fife has been accomplished. And though Don Knotts has passed and is enjoying his reward, we can forever return to Mayberry "electronally" and get lost for a time. God bless you Don Knotts for your work and to Andy Griffith for your vision.

We watch an episode each night. While we enjoy all of the old TAGS, the brilliance of the writing and acting of the first five years is so apparent. Not only was Don Knotts superb, he also brought out the very best in Andy Griffith. The interaction between the two of them in the office or on Andy's front porch was great. While both had successful careers apart, the magic they had together was never to be duplicated.

He could say more with his eyes than most actors can with pages of dialogue. A true genius of comic timing.
December 28, 2006 - Msg 4635:
Mr. Knotts was more than just an actor and comic to myself and my family. We are also from Morgantown, WV and I can fondly rmemeber my Father's stories of how they shared the same paly bill together. Don would do his ventriloquist routine and my Father would be the Irish tenor. His aunt would also become my Aunt's housekeeper. Late last year, I had gotten the urge to write to Mr. Knotts to tell him that although I truly enjoyed his comedic timing and his acting, it was the fond memories of my Father that truly endeared Mr. Knotts to me. For, every time I would see Mr. Knotts, I would fondly remember my Father's stories and a glow would return to my soul. I certainly hope Mr. Knotts family is comforted by the memory of their time together and by watching the body of his work. Mr. KNotts, thanks so much for the memories and may you be in the palm of God's hand in eternal bliss. John (Lawrence's son) Gallagher

I noticed TV land skipped several black and white epoids with Don and Andy in them. I was most upset. Soon they will be back into the color ones with missing some of Don, Andy, and Ron's best work. That isn't right. It shouldn't be done. Its been almost a year since we lost of icon. I miss him and I will forever.
January 02, 2007 - Msg 4637:
Don will always be missed. He made a great impact on my like, in that he made me laugh even when things didn;t seem all that funny. He is one of a kind and I truly can say one of my favorite tv personality.
January 05, 2007 - Msg 4638:
Don Knotts truly made the 'Andy Griffith Show'. Once he left the show lost all of its laughter. Thanks Don for your genius, we enjoy you today as much as yesterday.
January 06, 2007 - Msg 4639:
I don't think the Andy Griffith Show would have worked without Don Knotts (although it did continue for three seasons and spawned Mayberry, R.F.D.). He brought the charcter of Barney Fife to life. And the chemistry he had with Andy Griffith was priceless. No wonder the Warren charcter failed. No one could take his place.
January 07, 2007 - Msg 4640:
A great show and wonderfull man.I loved the shows that had him and Floyd in them.
January 09, 2007 - Msg 4641:
my best show with Barney was the one with Floyd when they went to a cabin and three escaped women convicts ended up holding them hostage. Barney was simply being Barney, and how he got the last convist in handcuffs was so funny that eveytime I watch it I lsugh so hard I can't hear what anyone is saying. But then I see all the dialog in Barney's face. He was the best and I greatly missed!
January 09, 2007 - Msg 4642:
I watch The Andy Griffith Show to this day. I'm not sure if it's when the show went color or Barney left, but Don Knotts had definitely made the show clean, honest, and most funny, the way Andy Griffith let Don Knotts expand in his talent, there is nothing like it and definitely not be another Barney or Don Knotts. Whenever I am on patrol, someone sarcastically calls me Barney Fife, well like Don Knotts, I'll take it as a complement, but as I said, there is only one Barney Fife and may he rest in peace and always be remembered....Helmut
January 09, 2007 - Msg 4643:
I still watch TAGS almost every day and love all the ones with Barney. Don Knotts continues to bring joy to my life, even during the darkest times. May your memory live on to the next generation and the next....

January 11, 2007 - Msg 4645:
I hope that TAGS will continue to be on television around the world for many years to come. This past October, I met a Barney impersonator, and as much fun as he was, I still wish I could have hugged the real Barney. I wish I could have sat on the front porch with he and Andy on a Sunday afternoon. But let's not forget the movies Mr. Knotts gave us. My favorite is The Apple Dumplin' Gang with Tim Conway. Sooo funny! I miss you Barn! I hope you knew how much you were loved. -- Margie

I watch at least one episode of Andy griffith everynight before I turn in. Everytime there's an episode without Barney, the kids leave the room. They say, "It's just not the same without him". Isn't that the truth. Thanks, Mark from So Cal.

There never was and never will be a person with the comedic genius of Don Knotts. It doesn't matter how many times I watch him on TAGS, I still laugh at him. And, in our house, we've adopted some of his terminology in regular conversation, such as "compelsion" and "klepterminerac" and "larnyx". ;)
February 15, 2007 - Msg 4659:
It's been almost a year now since Don's death and it still brings tears to my eyes when I watch TAGS. But I bet they're having one heck of a good time in Heaven! We miss you.

TAGS is my favorite TV show. I have always wanted to live in Mayberry. Everyone cares for everyone. Barney makes me laugh with his words, or just a look. he will be sorely missed by all. I miss you Don and look forward to when I can meet you face to face. Teresa, Robinson, IL
February 22, 2007 - Msg 4664:
TAGS used the CA State Highway Patrol uniform of the 1960's for Barney. My boyfriend, in the 1960's, could have been a stand-in for Don Knotts. Same size and build, and many of the same mannerisms. They wore the same uniform as well. I look back at the show, with nostalgia, and high regard for both men, one an actor playing a part, and the other just doing his job. Both good men, on the job and off. The world lost someone very special when Mr. Knotts passed away! Thank goodness we can still enjoy TAGS re-runs. In my mind, Don Knotts will always remain as young as he was on TAGS. And that's not a bad way to be remembered!

I often wonder if Don Knotts would have had any idea the impact he made on people if he would have considered giving up his movie contract and staying on with TAGS. How wonderful it would be to have three more seasons with him in them. Although i truly loved Andy Griffith, the show was not the same after old Barn left. He was by far my favorite actor. To me, watching TAGS is very "therapetic" :-) A.Elliott, L.Alabama
March 14, 2007 - Msg 4670:
Don Knotts was brilliant. The show wasn't the same after he left. But if you think about it, the show would also have been radically different if Don had stayed and Andy had left. The chemistry between the two of them made "The Andy Griffith Show" extraordinary. I love that show. Thank you to everyone who had anything to do with it. -- Mark, Stewartville, Minn.
March 18, 2007 - Msg 4671:
Don Knott's talent was amazing. He wasn't like Barney Fife at all. He was very low key and had a laid back personality (at least in public) in contrast to Barney Fife's nervous, exciteable personality. You would have had to have met him to know what a talented mam Don Knotts really was. May he rest in peace

Barney Fife. Just say the name, and the whole country (if not the world) knows who you're talking about. I've watched TAGS for ages, and will continue for ages, as long as they're broadcast, which I hope is forever. There will never again be a t.v. series where you wish you lived in that town and with those people. The down-home goodness and integrity of everyone, the easy going life style, the moral lessons, Aunt Bee's cooking, clean house and comfort...
