You may be asking who’s “little Miss Mayberry?” Well, on the Cruise to Mayberry 2023<\/a><\/strong> our special guest was Joy Ellison<\/strong> and she played several characters on The Andy Griffith Show<\/strong><\/em> with one of them being “Mary Wiggins” who was Miss Mayberry Jr. where Floyd sang to her in the Barber Shop at the end of “The Beauty Contest<\/a>” episode (S1.E16). Joy also appeared as “Effie Muggins” in “Christmas Story<\/a>” (S1.E11), “Mary Scobey” in “Andy Forecloses<\/a>” (S1.E28), “Betsy” in “Opie’s Most Unforgettable Character<\/a>” (S7.E29), and “Iris” in “Opie’s First Love<\/a>” (S8.E1). Joy also appeared an uncredited background character in “Mayberry Goes Hollywood<\/a>” (S1.E13) and went on to be on the TAGS spin-off series Gomer Pyle: U.S.M.C.<\/em><\/strong> as “Molly Peters” in the episode “Luv Finds Gomer Pyle” (S4.E20).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s just of an example of her Mayberry connections as Joy has many additional professional credits as an actor and as dialect coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was able to interview her during the Mayberry Cruise 2023<\/a> and hear her memories of her amazing career. This episode features much of that interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe that the audio version of this interview will be great to hear but if you choose to watch the video version, I’d added images of memories she mentions so I don’t think you can go wrong with either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
