Hey Mayberry<\/span> folks!I’m putting together the “schedule” of things we’ll be doing during the Meet<\/span>–up<\/span> weekend but PLEASE realize that nothing is mandatory and nobody will have hurt feelings if you choose to do things other than those suggest.\u00a0 I just wanted to let folks know where Jan & I will be and invite you all to join us if it fits your schedule.<\/p>\n

Friends…all the below are options\/suggestions for things to do in Mt. Airy.\u00a0 The main events, to me, are getting Betty Lynn’s autograph on Friday and the evening gatherings in the gazebo at the Mayberry<\/span> Motor Inn to visit & get to know one another.<\/p>\n

IMPORTANT:\u00a0 <\/b>
\nI’ve been trying to find a way to communicate better while at the meet<\/span>–up<\/span> so I’ve created a “Remind” class for the Mayberry<\/span> Meet<\/span>–up<\/span>. Remind is normally used for teachers to communicate with their classes but it will work great for this.\u00a0 If you can get TEXT messages on your phone, this will allow me to text all of you at one time.\u00a0 No personal information will be collected and you will ONLY get text messages from me related to the Mayberry<\/span> Meetup<\/span>.<\/p>\n

When you wake – 12:00 Noon<\/b><\/p>\n

— Visit downtown Mt. Airy. Pick and choose<\/p>\n

— Snappy Lunch (breakfast, lunch, or both – closes at 1:15 so eat early)<\/p>\n

— Drop by Floyd’s City Barber Shop<\/p>\n

— Visit shops on Main Street (be sure to visit Mayberry<\/span> on Main)<\/p>\n

— Ice Cream at Barney’s<\/p>\n

— Mayberry<\/span> Squad Car Tours starting at Wally’s (30 minute ride)<\/p>\n

— Visit Main Oak Emporium (Mayberry<\/span> Jail & Taylor’s front porch photo locations)<\/p>\n

— Visit Pilot Mountain either the town or the park…or both.<\/p>\n

12:30 – 3:30 pm<\/b><\/p>\n

— Andy Griffith Museum to Meet<\/span> Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, and tour the museum\/visit with fellow fans.<\/p>\n

— Get a photo by the Andy & Opie statue.<\/p>\n

4:45 – 7:30 pm<\/b><\/p>\n

— Eat Dinner at “The Depot” in Dobson, NC<\/b><\/i> (Or head out on your own to eat)<\/p>\n

— Gather at Mayberry<\/span> Motor Inn for trip to “The Depot” in Dobson, NC (about a 15-20 minute trip south on 601 out of Mt. Ariy).<\/p>\n

— Bring your camera because it’s a sight to behold.\u00a0 Here’s a link to the web site – http:\/\/www.codycreek.net<\/p>\n

— I figured we’d head down there a little early because they tend to get busy and to allow more “visiting” time back at the Mayberry<\/span> Motor Inn after eating<\/p>\n

~7:30 – 11:00 pm (or later)<\/b><\/p>\n

— Gather at the Mayberry<\/span> Motor Inn in the gazebo area (you don’t have to be staying there to come over and visit).<\/p>\n

— Bring sodas, tea, punch and some snacks if you have ’em.<\/p>\n

— BRING lawn chairs if you have ’em. (There are some chairs at the gazebo but to be safe, bring your own.)<\/p>\n

— Some Mayberry<\/span> Music by anybody who wants to bring an instrument and play.\u00a0 Jane is planning something special.<\/p>\n

— Watch episodes of The Andy Griffith Show together on a screen under the stars.<\/p>\n

— Visit with friends.<\/p>\n

— Maybe record some stuff for the podcast episode together.<\/p>\n

== Saturday Schedule ==<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

When you wake – 6 pm<\/b><\/p>\n

I’m going to call this a “free day” because there are no big<\/em> plans until the Meet<\/span>–up<\/span> at the Gazebo
\n— Visit downtown Mt. Airy. Pick and choose<\/p>\n

— Snappy Lunch (breakfast, lunch, or both – closes at 1:15 so eat early)<\/p>\n

— Drop by Floyd’s City Barber Shop<\/p>\n

— Visit shops on Main Street (be sure to visit Mayberry<\/span> on Main)<\/p>\n

— Go to Pilot Mountain Stat Park for hiking, photo taking, or may even take a picnic lunch.

— The plan for eating is to order sandwiches from Subway in their Platter form IF<\/em> Jan and I can get a good head count of how many people we have attending.\u00a0\u00a0 Pizza is also a possibility.<\/p>\n

Bring chips if you have any special food you love.
\nBring soda or what you’d like to drink.\u00a0 Otis…not what YOU like to drink. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

— Share tells about the days adventures in Mayberry<\/span>.<\/p>\n

— Head somewhere to eat either as a group or small groups of us.<\/p>\n

— Gather at the Earle for special director-producer commentary (director Gary Nelson<\/b> and producer Dick Atkins<\/b>) session starting at 3 p.m. and followed by a rare screening\u00a0 at pm of Murder in Coweta County<\/b><\/i> (the acclaimed 1983 TV movie starring Andy Griffith<\/b> and Johnny Cash <\/b>and Cindi Knight <\/b>(who was soon to become Mrs. Andy Griffith<\/i>).\u00a0\u00a0 $6 per ticket<\/b> to attend.<\/b>
\n<\/span>
\n— Note: Gary Nelson<\/b> also directed the “Malcolm at the Crossroads<\/b><\/i>” episode of TAGS, two episodes of “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.<\/b><\/i>” and dozens of hit TV shows, miniseries and TV movies from the 1960s through the 1990s. It promises to be a special afternoon at the Earle.<\/p>\n

\n— More eating at your location of choice.\u00a0 Remember, it’s Sunday so I don’t know what will be open.<\/p>\n

— Back to the Gazebo at the Mayberry<\/span> Motor Inn for visiting and videos under the stars and wrap up<\/span> the weekend of fellowship.<\/p>\n
