On TCNW #480<\/a> we featured an interview with Rance Howard<\/strong>, the father of Ron <\/strong>and Clint<\/strong>. During that interview Rance mentioned how Ron got the role of Opie. Ronnie was optioned to appear on a possible CBS series called “Barnaby and Mr. O’Malley<\/em>” which would have conflicted with Ronnie being able to appear on The Andy Griffith Show<\/em><\/strong>. Aaron Ruben <\/strong>put in a second hold for Ronnie to be on The Andy Griffith Show<\/em><\/strong> if the other series didn’t sell.

What a different version of Mayberry we would have had if Ronnie hadn’t been Opie.
