Hey Mayberry folks!I’m putting together the “schedule” of things we’ll be doing during the Meetup weekend but PLEASE realize that nothing is mandatory and nobody will have hurt feelings if you choose to do things other than those suggest.  I just wanted to let folks know where Jan & I will be and invite you all to join us if it fits your schedule.

Friends…all the below are options/suggestions for things to do in Mt. Airy.  The main events, to me, are getting Betty Lynn’s autograph on Friday and the evening gatherings in the gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn to visit & get to know one another.

IMPORTANT:
I’ve been trying to find a way to communicate better while at the meetup so I’ve created a “Remind” class for the Mayberry Meetup. Remind is normally used for teachers to communicate with their classes but it will work great for this.  If you can get TEXT messages on your phone, this will allow me to text all of you at one time.  No personal information will be collected and you will ONLY get text messages from me related to the Mayberry Meetup.

To receive messages via text about the Mayberry Meetup 2015,

Send a text message to this number: 81010
with the following as the message:  @maymu
(include the “@” symbol)

Jan and I are looking forward to seeing you all in Mayberry!

Mayberry Meetup in Mt. Airy, NC 17-19 July 2015
at the Mayberry Motor Inn
(http://www.MayberryMotorInn.com)

Hey Folks,

I wanted to invite anyone who would like to make plans to visit Mt. Airy, NC the weekend of 17-19 (Friday-Sunday) July 2015.

Jan and I are, for the third year in a row, heading to Mt. Airy for a weekend of Mayberry fun!

There’s nothing “BIG” planned other than on Friday the 17th Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou) will greets fans at the Andy Griffith Museum 12:30-3:30 p.m (ET).  She will have autographed 8×10 photos available ($10). For more information about what’s required to get Betty’s autograph, visit the museum website at http://www.andygriffithmuseum.org/ or call (336) 786-1604.  There is $3 fee for touring the museum/getting access to Betty (I believe).

We will schedule times for folks to get together and visit with one another during the weekend at the Mayberry Motor Inn gazebo on both Friday and Saturday. (I’ve already checked in with Alma and Michael about doing this again this year) for some good visiting time…maybe some pizza (food for sure)…..and watching episodes of The Andy Griffith Show together.

If you’re interested, go ahead and make reservations at the Mayberry Motor Inn – Phone 336-786-4109 – (they have rooms if you hurry).  If it gets full, there are other places to stay nearby in Mt. Airy. You can still come to the gazebo for fun and fellowship even if you can’t stay at the Motor Inn but they dig you so you be nice and dig them back.

The last two years have been a lot of fun for me, getting to visit with folks and enjoy good conversation.

If you’re interested, go ahead and make reservations at the Mayberry Motor Inn – Phone 336-786-4109.

I’ll come up with a schedule of things folks can do as we get closer but things I’m pretty sure we’ll do:

* Visit the Andy Griffith Museum on 17th to get Betty’s autograph and look around.
* Eat Dinner at “The Depot” in Dobson, NC (Or head out on your own to eat)
— Bring your camera because it’s a sight to behold.  Here’s a link to the web site – http://www.codycreek.net

I’m sure we’ll find more to fill our time and I’ll send out info as we get closer to the date.

If you’re going to try and make it, please e-mail me directly (Floyd@iMayberry.com) so I can have some type of head count.

I hope you’ll considering making the trip and we’ll have our own Mayberry sized version of a Mayberry weekend in Mt. Airy!   It’s FUN!

Hey Folks,

I wanted to invite everyone who’s able to make plans to visit Mt. Airy, NC the weekend of 11-13 (Friday-Sunday) July 2014.

Jan and I are, once again, heading to Mt. Airy for a weekend of Mayberry fun!

There’s nothing “BIG” planned other than on Saturday the 12th at 2pm we’ll have the chance to attend “Professor Brower’s Lecture Series” at The Andy Griffith Museum. Professor Neal Brower will be covering The Andy Griffith Show episode “Back to Nature.”  For any that don’t know, Neal Brower is the author of Mayberry 101 and taught “The Andy Griffith Show: An In-depth Study” at Community Colleges throughout North Carolina for many years.  There’s no charge for the class if you’ve paid the fee for touring the museum.  For more info, visit the website at http://www.andygriffithmuseum.org/ or call (336) 786-1604.

I *DO* plan to set up times for folks to get together and visit with one another during the weekend but I haven’t set exact times yet for that.

The main thing I want to do is get together over at the Mayberry Motor Inn gazebo on Friday and Saturday evenings (I’ve already checked in with Alma about doing this again this year) for some good visiting time..maybe some pizza…..and watching episodes of The Andy Griffith Show together.

So far Kenneth “Otis” Junkin has confirmed he’s is planning on being there along with a few other folks from the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast listeners.  Hopefully we’ll be joined by WBMUTBB Digest folks and we’ll have a Mayberry time of things!

If you’re going to try and make it, please e-mail me directly (Floyd@iMayberry.com) so I can have some type of head count.

I hope you’ll considering making the trip and we’ll have our own small version of a Mayberry weekend in Mt. Airy.

Hey Mayberry,

WOW….let me just say that we had a wonderful time in Mt. Airy, NC this past weekend!

We had 29 Mayberry fans join us for the Mayberry Meetup (listed below)!  They came from *all* over but I think Ohio was the well represented (4),  Tennessee (4),  Alabama (3),  Georgia (2), and the most folks were from North Carolina (16) as it should be since we were in their back yard. 🙂

Friday started of great with a visit to the Andy Griffith Museum and autographs from “Thelma Lou” herself, Ms. Betty Lynn!  Folks stood in line for hours to meet Betty, get an autograph and none were disappointed.  She posed for photos and chatted with every person in line bringing smiles and tears to each along the way.

Friday and Saturday nights were highlight of the weekend for me, just behind visiting with Betty, because those able to do so gathered in the gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn  (thanks Alma!) to watch episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, select video clips from Mayberry & beyond, and visit!   Just like sitting on the Taylor’s front porch, we gathered to talk and get to know one another better.  What a wonderful time we had.

During the day on Saturday, 6 car loads of the Mayberry crew headed first up to the “Old Mayberry Trading Post” to see the area where the name “Mayberry” originated.  We looked through the Trading Post and some folks found treasures there that they made their own.  We then traveled the 4 or so miles over to Maybry Mill for photos and some good ole American history on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We didn’t pass up a trip to the Maybry Mill Restaurant before we left for more time to visit another and tell lies to one another while we ate.

Sunday morning, the 12 of us remaining in town once again gathered at the gazebo for a session of the Mayberry Bible Study.  Following the study, those that didn’t have to head right back home went to break bread ones last time before departing.  The Bible study and eating were a fitting and wonderful way to wrap up this Mayberry Meetup weekend.

You can check out photos of the weekend by visiting the Facebook album (you do NOT have to sign up to Facebook to see the photos) at the following link:
http://on.fb.me/13Fyz0U

Thank you to all who were able to attend and hopefully many of you may be able to join us if we do this again.

“Everything’s OKAY…in Mayberry!”
