TCNW 901: Fun Mayberry Trivia

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:42:40

This episode is going to be full of Mayberry trivia that I think we can all enjoy.

Last weekend was the 14th Mayberry Meetup at the Mayberry Motor Inn in Mount Airy, N.C. We had a great time visiting and doing some different kinds of trivia and that got me to wanting some fun trivia for us to do here on the podcast. I hope you’re going to enjoy trying to answer these questions from the Mayberry Trivia book by Scott Hopkins (available at WeaversDepartmentStore.com).

We’ll follow that up with a little overview of the Meetup to include a great video by “Ernest T. Bass Review” (you can find him on Facebook and the link is in our show notes). Thanks to Eddie “Ernest T” Kilbourne for letting me use his video. For our audio only listeners, I think you’ll enjoy it, too, but I do recommend the video version to see what’s happening.

TCNW 900: 900 Podcast Episodes

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:49:02

Welcome to the 900th episode of Two Chairs No Waiting – the podcast where we pull up a chair, sip some iced tea on the front porch, and talk about all things Mayberry.

I’m your host, Allan Newsome – also known around these parts as Floyd the Barber, your friendly neighborhood tribute artist, and a proud resident of the Andy Griffith Show universe.

Can you believe it? Nine hundred episodes! If we were filming in black & white like back in the day, we’d be somewhere around Season 28 by now. (laughs) That’s 32 episodes a year for 900 episodes (28.125)

When I started this little podcast back in October 11, 2008. That’s 17 years, 9 months, and 10 days ago as of the scheduled release date of this episode, I never dreamed I would still be sittin’ here yammerin’ about Goober’s carburetor record (Goober’s 38-minute-12-second carburetor disassembly record), Ernest T. Bass throwin’ rocks through windows, or Opie learnin’ life lessons from Andy. But here we are – 900 episodes strong, thanks to you, the best listeners & viewers in the whole wide world.

This milestone feels like one of those classic Mayberry town moments where everybody shows up to a meetings to celebrate something special. So today, we’re throwing a little party right here on the Internet. There won’t be any fancy speeches – just an expression by me of good ol’ fashioned gratitude and a few reflections from the front porch.

We’ll wrap up this episode with a little Ernest T. Bass trivia courtesy of Paul Mulik. Complete the quote: Ernest T. Bass edition.

TCNW 899: Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:43:12

Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee was the 58th episode filmed and aired of The Andy Griffith Show. (S2.E26)

We’ll play Mayberry trivia all about “Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee.

Plot Summary Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee:

Aunt Bee’s friend Clara convinces her that she is preventing her widowed nephew Andy from remarrying. Feeling like a burden, Aunt Bee reluctantly begins seeing Mayberry’s dry cleaner, Mr. Fred Goss, who has shown romantic interest in her. She pursues the relationship mainly as a pretense to demonstrate her independence and “free” Andy to find a wife of his own.

Mr. Goss is eager but awkward—he talks incessantly about his dry-cleaning business and has several off-putting habits. This leads to a series of comedic misunderstandings as Aunt Bee struggles to maintain the charade. Andy remains patient and supportive throughout. The episode resolves with gentle reassurance that Aunt Bee’s presence in the home is valued and that she does not need to sacrifice her own happiness for his.
We’ll review some notes and “Odd Facts Known by Few” related to the episode Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee.

We’ll go over the answers for the trivia questions and talk a little about the upcoming Mayberry Meetup event to be held in Mt. Airy, N.C.
