I’ve been looking around the Two Chairs No Waiting Archives and ran across my copy of the second issue of “The Bullet.” “The Bullet” was the paper version of the official newsletter put out by The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club and this second issue was published on March 18, 1983. That’s just short of 39 years ago as I record this episode.
I thought it would be fun to share with you a story from that issue by Ken Beck called “Mayberry Mountain People” and see what was going on 39 years ago in Mayberry and to find out a few new things about some of The Andy Griffith Show cast.
Following that, we’ll play some Mayberry trivia and then move along to hear from SpiritWalker with this week’s installment of “Returning to Mayberry” called, “Earp to Earp.”

I was moving things around in the Two Chairs No Waiting Archives and ran across a copy of “The Mayberry Confidential” from September 28,1995. You might be asking, “What is ‘The Mayberry Confidential?’ and I would say itiis the “Official News of Mayberry Days” and is published each year as a guide to the events held during Mayberry Days in Andy’s hometown of Mt. Airy, NC.
This issue has a wonderful story written by guest columnist Jim Clark called “A Condition of the Heart.” I believe the feelings expressed by Jim fit well with comments made in previous episodes about Mayberry being a “state of mind.” Jim’s thoughts may be an even betty way to express what Mayberry means to us and I know you’ll enjoy hearing them.
We have several voice messages to share with you so stick around until the end of the show. You won’t want to miss our final call that we hear after this week’s installment of “Returning to Mayberry” by SpiritWalker called, “Rickles to Freckles.“

I was watching the episode “Ellie for Council” today and it really got me thinking about what happens in this episode. I mean, at first glance it looks like an extremely sexist episode but if you stick with the episode until the end….something happens. A real lesson is taught. This from an episode filmed in 1960. A comedy television series delved into the topic of equality and by the end tried to teach us all a lesson.
This was really a one of kind type thing in 1960. A television sitcom looking at who women are treated in society. The small, rural town of Mayberry…in the end…realized and accepted that women should be treated as equals. Boy…it didn’t start that way but isn’t that what growth is all about. Sheriff Taylor, and the men of Mayberry, GREW during this 30 minutes of television.

The Mayberry Trading Post in Meadows of Dan, VA has a connection to They Andy Griffith Show. The area where it’s located is very likely where the name Mayberry came from. Things nearby like Mayberry Creek sure makes it seem like the Mayberry Trading Post is located in the real Mayberry.
We’re fortunate this week to have Phil Barnard as a guest. Phil’s family has a wonderful connection to the Trading Post and has some great history to share with us. We also have a visit from roaming reporter Randy Turner with information about the Mayberry Trading Post.
This is a great episode with information you’ll never find anywhere else.
This week’s installment of “Returning to Mayberry” by SpiritWalker is called, “Chairman to Batman.”

These episodes are my favorites because I get to hear from you and your listener feedback. This is, I believe, our 45th listener feedback episode. We’ve had more episode feedback that that but not all of them were dedicated to only feedback.
We have voicemails from several listeners as well as comments submitted online, mostly from YouTube viewers of Two Chairs No Waiting. If you only listen to the episodes, you’re missing out on seeing my smiling face each week as well as the images related to topics I discuss so give the YouTube version of the show a watch on your phone of tablet. You can even watch it on your smart TV, if you have one, and it looks good on the big screen.
This week installment of “Returning to Mayberry” by SpiritWalker is called, “Peterson to Nicholson.” I know you’re going to enjoy it.
