This being Memorial Day here in the United States, I thought it would be a fitting time to talk about one of the veterans that were cast members of The Andy Griffith Show. Howard Morris was on my mind because he passed away on 21 May 2005 and lucky for me a couple of articles about Mr. Morris from 1955 were recently passed to me. You’re going to enjoy learning more about the man who later became Ernest T. Bass.

I also have some great feedback from listeners/viewers so we have a BIG show to enjoy.

Bonus:  This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Don Knotts.

I know a lot of you enjoy trivia so every now and then we have a episode dedicated to Mayberry Trivia. We’ve had hard trivia, easy trivia and pretty much everything in between but we’ve never done true or false questions.

Thanks to author and Mayberry fan Scott Hopkins and his book Mayberry Trivia we have some fun true or false Mayberry trivia questions that will keep us smiling.

Bonus:  This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Rodney Dillard.

TCNW 425: The “Real” George Lindsey

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:22:43

May 6, 2017 was the 5th anniversary of the passing of George “Goober” Lindsey. Mayberry fans know George in his persona of Goober Pyle but how many know the “real” George Linsdey.

George always found time to support good causes and the cause closest to his heart was Special Olympics. His annual George Lindsey Celebrity Golf Weekend raised over $1,000,000 for Alabama Special Olympics from 1973 to 1988.

On the 20th of April 1986, the 14th Annual George Lindsey Celebrity Benefit was held at Arrowhead country club and a friend of mine, Rob, was in attendance as a volunteer. As fate would have it, Rob presented me with the program from that event one day after the anniversary of George’s passing.

Who is the “Real” George Lindsey is on page 17 and this episode we’ll learn the answer to the question together.

Bonus:  This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Jerry Van Dyke.

We lost a great on about a month ago in Don Rickles. His character of Newton Monroe comes to mind often when something I, or a friend, just bought breaks. He will be missed and we’ll talk a bit about him.

I ran across a wonderful poem from Al Becker (that’s what he goes by on the Internet) from 2001 called “If I Met…” I know you’re going to enjoy this poem honoring the people of Mayberry.

TCNW 423: Return to Mayberry Update

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:20:22

Last episode we were reminded about the “Return to Mayberry” television movie by Randy Turner’s This Week in Mayberry History report so I thought it was fate when I ran across a forgotten Mayberry historical gem.

I was looking through the files on my computer trying to find a Mayberry related image and came across a folder named Everett. In that folder was a file named “ending.” Not a descriptive name but it made me want to open it to see what was in there. Turns out that it was a letter from The Andy Griffith Show writer Harvey Bullock from 1999 addressing a question about the “Return to Mayberry” and the possible alternate ending that was written.

This is BIG and I’m just sorry it’s been filed away in a digital folder for all these years but at least we get to hear the answer now.

Bonus:  This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Elinor Donahue.
