TCNW 859: Mayberry Days 2025 Reports

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:53:25

2025 Mayberry Days just wrapped up the end of September. Mount Airy, N.C. became Mayberry for the week. I asked my listeners/viewers on last episode to call in and they responded!

I received more that ten voice messages to share with you so you are in for a treat. You’ll be able to hear from folks who actually attended Mayberry Days to hear what they thought of the festival. Maybe that will help you make up your mind to attend next year and/or to attend the other Mayberry events held throughout the year.

You can find out about the events by visiting iMayberry.com and going to the “Event Calendar” link. Don’t miss out on all the fun.

We’ll play a little trivia and as a bonus we’ll hear a little about the possibility of a second season of Mayberry Man: The Series! It’s BIG but it’s up to fans as to if it happens or not.

Thanks for listening/watching!

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:42:08

The 2025 Mayberry Days just wrapped up in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Andy Griffith’s hometown of Mount Airy became Mayberry for the week and it was wonderful. I’m not going to talk too much about this years event because I have a task for those of you who were in attendance.

I would very much like for you to call into the podcast and leave a voice message telling about your experience. The number is (256)513-9526 and you can call or you can go to TwoChairsNoWaiting.com and click the “Leave a Voicemail” flag floating on the right. (You can also go to “About” and “Contact” to leave a message that way.

I know those that enjoy this podcast would love to hear what you thought about the event. Please give it try.

This episode we’re going to see some memories from the 1995 edition of Mayberry Days and specifically the Doug Dillard Show. I really believe you’ll enjoy it and it’ll give a flavor of what you might experience at a Mayberry event.

This is another episode that I would encourage folks to watch the video because the things we’ll be playing are clips and seeing them, I believe, would be better than hearing only.

We’ll wrap up with a few trivia questions just for fun!

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:33:02

This is Mayberry Days week in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Mount Airy is Andy Griffith’s hometown and this marks the 36th Annual Mayberry Days. Folks often ask what happens at the shows like Col. Tim’s during Mayberry Days so this episode we’ll experience some examples of the things that occur at Col. Tim’s.

This is an episode that I would encourage folks to watch the video because the things we’ll be playing are clips from different events and seeing them, I believe, would be better than hearing only.

We have Floyd joining Rodney Dillard and the Dillard Band in singing “House of the Rising Floyd,Elizabeth MacRae who played Lou-Ann Poovie on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. will sing for us and be joined by Gary Crain (Gomer) for some fun, the first every performance of “Good ol’ 14A” at Col. Tim’s in 1994, and we’ll wrap up with Floyd singing “My Hometown” with Elvis.

Big ain’t the word for it!

TCNW 851: If I Met Andy

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:27:58

I’ve been going through old files on my computer and came across a poem by a person with the username “Al Becker” from 2001. This poem really makes you think about what it would be like to meet not only Andy but many of the cast members from The Andy Griffith Show. What would your say to them? How would you feel when you met them?

I’ve been lucky to have met so many of our friends from Mayberry and I can say this poem helps me to remember those wonderful times.

I also ran across some video from 1999 that I’ve shown here on Two Chairs way back in April 2012. I thought it might be worth sharing again. Andy Griffith appeared for the first time on the Grand Ole Opry back on November 13, 1999. Andy was there to present fellow Tar Heel Earl Scruggs with a North Carolina Hall of Fame award.

When Andy joined Earl on stage and he received an extended standing ovation. Here even said, “I ‘preciate it” and then told a barbershop joke that George Lindsey had first shared with him years ago. Then Andy, with Earl and company backing him (and playing a guitar he used on The Andy Griffith Show) played and sang “Whoa Mule,” (also called “Flop Eared Mule”). Andy had performed that song with the Country Boys on The Andy Griffith Show episode “Mayberry on Record.” Enjoy the memory

We’ll do a few trivia questions as well.

TCNW 850: Who Stole Floyd’s Pants

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:29:42

We had a voice mail and many other comments about enjoying the clips from the Colonel Tim’s Talent Time show that is somewhat of a final show for Mayberry Days each year. So, I ran across a clip where somebody has stolen Floyd’s pants and he’s trying to get them back. I hope you’ll enjoy this. I recommend you watch the video version of this episode even if you usually just listen to the audio. I believe it would be worth watching. The video clip was provided by Neil & Pat Coleman so a BIG thank you to them.

Then we’ll dive into some of the information found in the Weaver’s Newsletter issue for July/Aug 2025. There’s a load of Mayberry related information and fun in the newsletter so it’s not all about trying to sell you stuff. If you haven’t, consider subscribing so you’ll get the newsletter delivered to your e-mail inbox as soon as it publishes every-other month.

Thank you all for supporting the podcast and being part of the Two Chairs No Waiting community. It means a lot that your out there listening and viewing.

Folks seemed to really enjoy the video of Psalm 23 from episode 847 of the podcast so I thought I would share a highlight from Col. Tim’s Talent Time that occurred during Mayberry Days 2021.

We’ll watch, or listen to, the Mayberry Founders Day Pageant featuring many of our Mayberry tributes. This is performed on the Andy Griffith Playhouse stage where a school age Andy also once performed. The host for the pageant is Floyd the barber. This is one of the podcast episodes I would suggest you consider actually watching the video of if you normally just listen to the audio. I believe it would be worth the watch.

The video was provided by Neil & Pat Coleman so a BIG thank you to them.

Enjoy the show!

Mayberry Days is a great time to be in Mount Airy, NC and the 35th annual Mayberry Days lived up to that statement. A highlight of every Mayberry Days is the “super bowl” of Mayberry Trivia.

This episode we go through the Qualifying Round questions and answers of the 2024 World Championship of Mayberry Trivia.

The qualifying round is played by all who chose to participate and attempt to earn a spot in the Finals of Mayberry trivia. If you qualify, you end up facing previous years Mayberry Days Trivia champions as well as the others who qualified from this round on stage for the finals.

Good luck with the questions. If you got more than 10 right, you ought to make your way to Mayberry Days and try your hand at landing on stage for the finals.

We finish up with some easier Mayberry trivia.
