TCNW 464: The Lady Barber of Mayberry

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:23:01

There was a “lady barber” in Mayberry? We’ll, no…not on The Andy Griffith Show but in the town that Mayberry is loosely based upon there is a lady barber with Mayberry ties. Her name is Donna Hiatt and she’s the niece of Russell Hiatt who owned and operated “Floyd’s City Barber Shop” on Mt. Street in Mt. Airy, NC until he passed away in May 2016. Donna has a great story to tell and writer Bill Colvard of The Mt. Airy News captured it in ink on the last day of 2017.

Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Herbie Faye.”

I’ve been listening to your podcast about 2 weeks and I love it. I noticed this week the day was changed to Sunday. Could you let us know in advance when you change the day? The Website and Facebook page shows different days for the weekly podcasts. Could you confirm the regular day and time it begins in California. Keep up the great work

I posted on the Two Chairs Facebook page about the “special” recording time for the LIVE show as soon as I realized I had to move the normal time/date for episode #464. That occurs from time-to-time because I have to deal with life and schedules change. I’m sorry you didn’t hear about it. I even did the “LIVE” show on Facebook this episode to help everyone find the live recording.

The podcast is published every Tuesday at 8pm ET but it is normally recorded live on Monday nights at 8pm ET. You can join us for the live show on Mondays and be part of the chat room. It is a great place to visit with other Mayberry fans but if you can’t make the live show, the recorded version comes out on Tuesday nights at 8pm ET.
