Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome

This episode is a real treat for us all in that we get to hear from Opie’s buddy Howie Pruitt himself. Dennis Rush spends almost an hour visiting with us and telling stories of growing up as a child actor in Hollywood. We focus on The Andy Griffith Show, of course, but Dennis’ career is an amazing story and I know you’re going to enjoy.

He tell about working with so many of the stars that most of us dream of ever just having a chance to see in person. Dennis worked with them and has stories about each. We could easily have spend another hour going through what he was able to accomplish before he was even 17 years old.

Sit back and get ready for a long episode. Take your time, pause and come back if need be, becasue you will not want to miss a minute.

There’s no trivia this week because of the episode length so you have another week to study up.

I hope you heard first 2 parts of this series but even if you haven’t, you are in for a treat as we continue the interview with Two Chair No Waiting’s resident Mayberry History expert, Randy Turner. The interview was originally aired on Yesterday USA (https://yesterdayusa.net/). Yesterday USA is a streaming radio station with the purpose of preserving and presenting the history of old time radio shows. They also interview folks with connection to classic television and other topics. Yesterday USA is operated by an all-volunteer staff.

The host of this interview is Walden Hughes with co-hosts Patricia and Dan.

This part of Randy’s interview talks about the influence of “Old Time Radio” series & writers on early television, “Opie the Birdman,” whether the popularity of The Andy Griffith Show will last, Randy Turner’s publications, Mayberry festivals & the Mayberry fan community, and the Mayberry Man movie.

This is final episode of this amazing interview so I encourage you to go back and check out the other two parts of this interview, if you missed them. For that matter, you may want to listened to them all again just to be sure you didn’t miss anything.

This episode we wrap up the panel discussion from the 2002 Mayberry in the Midwest held in New Castle, IN. The panel discussion the event held for the media with the cast members answering questions. If you didn’t listen to, or watch, last week for part one, I recommend you go back and do that. The cast members present were Howard “Ernest T.” Morris, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, James “Jim Lindsey” Best, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson and all four Darling boys; Rodney & Doug Dillard, Dean Webb and Mitch Jayne.

I recently found an old 8mm video tape that was used when I recorded the panel. The audio quality isn’t the very best but it’s content you won’t find anywhere else. You also get a feel for how the cast members are in “real” life as they interact with those asking questions and with one another. You’ll hear them answer one of the most asked questions ever, “Who was Mr. Schwamp?

This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Johnny Silver.”

In 2002 an event called Mayberry in the Midwest was held in New Castle, IN. I was lucky enough to be asked to be at the event as Floyd so I was able to go to the panel discussion the event held for the media with the cast members. The cast present were Howard “Ernest T.” Morris, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, James “Jim Lindsey” Best, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson and all four Darling boys; Rodney & Doug Dillard, Dean Webb and Mitch Jayne.

I found an 8mm video tape that I recorded during the panel. The audio isn’t wonderful but it’s good enough and you’ll get to see/hear things that few heard in person. You’ll get a feel for how these wonderful cast members are as “real” people and I know you won’t be disappointed. We’re gonna listen to the first fifteen minutes this week.

This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Don Rickles.”

TCNW 599: Interview with Randy Turner

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:31:34

We’ve all heard from Randy Turner each week since January 2017. Randy has worked hard to bring unique information related to The Andy Griffith Show that we might never have heard before. In this episode, we get to learn a little more about Randy. How he became a fan; what keeps him going; and more. I know you’ll enjoy learning more about our “roving reporter.”

There isn’t a “This Week in Mayberry History” this week since the whole episode is about Randy Turner. I figured he deserved a little time off.
