The Golden Arm folktale has become a tradition here on Two Chairs to be told this time of year. This being Halloween and all so it is time to tell the version of the story I discovered in 2016. I also thought I’d add a couple of new campfire stories into the mix to start things off and to get that spooky feeling started before the main story.
Gather those you love nearby to keep you safe, turn down the lights and sit back as you listen, or watch, to a tell sure to keep Barney and Gomer awake all night.

Welcome to episode ten of the 5 Minute Mayberry Devotional, entitled “Let Your Light Shine.” In today’s episode, we’re going to look at episode ten of The Andy Griffith Show, entitled Ellie For Council, and my Bible verse today comes from Matthew 5:16.
We’re continuing to celebrate the 60 years of The Andy Griffith Show following the October 3rd anniversary. This week we’re going to talk about Nashville, TN and it’s contribution to keeping Mayberry alive for all these years.
As part of that, we have to talk about the fellow who has kept The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club healthy and moving forward since the fall of 1979 when TAGSRWC was established, Jim Clark. As “Presiding Goober Emeritus”, that ’emeritus’ part of his title had slipped by my notice until not too long ago, Jim has had a hand in pretty much every Mayberry endeavor since that humble beginning of TAGSRWC.
This article by Joe Rogers (founder of the “Otis Campbell” chapter) ran in “The Nashville Ledge” on September 18, 2020.
Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring part 3 of his review of “No Time for Sergeants.”

Welcome to episode nine of the 5 Minute Mayberry Devotional, entitled “Double Check.” Now that’s Double Check, not Trouble Check. In today’s episode, we’re going to look at episode nine of The Andy Griffith Show, entitled A Feud is A Feud, and my Bible verse today comes from 2 Timothy 2:15.
What great memories I have from Mayberry Days 2020. It was the 31st Mayberry Days held on the 30th anniversary of the first Mayberry Days and just a week before the 60th Anniversary of The Andy Griffith Show. While the attendance for 2020 was not what it normally is because of the Covid-19 issues, it was a welcome time of normalcy in what has been an unusual year. In this episode we’ll work through the Qualifying Round questions and answers of the 2020 World Championship of Mayberry Trivia.
The qualifying round is just to qualify for the Finals of Mayberry trivia. If you qualify, you end up facing past Mayberry Days Trivia champions and other qualifiers from this round and the “kids” trivia winners.
The Grand Champion of Mayberry Trivia for 2020 was, for the 5th time in a row, Jim Sherrill. Jim has been the champion in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and now in 2020. He deserves a lot of credit for his education and the speed of his buzzer finger. We’ll go though the questions from the finals in a future episode.
This episode also marks the start of year 12 +1 of Two Chairs….I’m just being cautious.

In today’s episode, we’re going to use episode eight of The Andy Griffith Show, entitled Opie’s Charity and looking at Mark chapter 12, the second part of verse 43.
On episode #103 of Two Chairs (Andy Griffith Statue Part 4) a young man called into the show with a voice mail about meeting Andy Griffith (about the 8 minute mark) to help us celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Andy Griffith Show. The young fellows name is Trey Miller. Ten years later, on the 60th Anniversary of The Andy Griffith Show (October 3, 2020), Trey created a special episode of his video blog called “Globetrotting with Trey” sharing the same experience but with more detail.
I contacted Trey to see if I could share his story with you. I think you’ll be, just like me, imagining being right there with Trey as he meets Andy and share his excitement in meeting “the man himself.” It’s an event he’ll never forget and one I’ve never forgotten since hearing that story 10 years ago.
