I’ve been cleaning up my Mayberry room here at my house and uncovered a gem. Back in 2007 James Best appeared at Mayberry Days and as part of that appearance he performed at Col Tim’s Talent Time. He started off as the guitar player, Jim Lindsey, but it didn’t take long for the Mayberry Deputy to make him pull rank. What insued was a competion to see who was the best lawman.
James was an amazing friend to Mayberry fans so I’m happy to be able to share this amazing memory. David Browning and the Bests became close friends over the years and I know that David enjoyed sharing the stage with him.
Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Barbara Eden.

I’m often asked how I got started as a “Floyd the barber” tribute. In this episode you’ll get to hear the story of how it all began. From The Mayberry Deputy, David Browning asking me to come to talk to folks using a Floyd voice to the very first time I ever tried to do Floyd in public, you’ll get the whole story.

Remember the episode when Andy was talking to Floyd about who blackballed Howard Sprague from the lodge? Floyd was only half listening because he’s reading the newspaper article about “somebody stealing this poor guys house while he’s at work.” One of our listeners always thought was kind of far-fetched that somebody would have stolen a house but after finding this story, maybe it’s not as far out there as one might think.
We’ll also hear a few voice mails you’re going to love to include information about Andy Taylor you won’t believe.

When going through the Andy Griffith Museum a couple of weeks back, something in particular caught my eye. It was a birdhouse built by The Andy Griffith Show writer Harvey Bullock and called “Opie’s Birdhouse.”
The reason I took sure note of it is because I have one of Opie’s birdhouses and I knew a letter went along with my house but the letter was lost before I got the house. Thankfully, I was able to get a photo of the letter and now I know the details about how Opie built the birdhouse….now you will, too.
