TCNW 726: Singing in Mayberry Part 2

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:26:41

The videos I’ve been going through had more singing in Mayberry so I wanted to do a part 2 to share more special memories.

Special singers from Mayberry this week will be Maggie Peterson (Charlene) and she is joined on stage by Ernest T. Bass (Howard Morris). These performances were during the 2002 Col. Tim’s at Mayberry Days as were the performances featured last week by Betty and Howard. I had to do a bit of research to find the year but I was able to do it thanks to my wife, Jan, having ‘scrap booked’ wonderful albums that contained the images.

We’ll wrap up with some trivia provided by listener/viewer Paul Mulik. Thanks to Paul for his fun questions.

TCNW 686: Maggie Peterson Celebrated

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:57:55

Actress Maggie Peterson played Charlene Darling on The Andy Griffith Show but she was so much more. We lost her on Sunday May 15, 2022 so please join me in celebrating her life from Greeley to Mayberry.

In trying to come up with the best was to honor Maggie and to help fans learn more about her, I realized that an interview with Maggie recorded in Calhoun, GA at an event called “A Touch of Mayberry” would allow us to hear her tell the story in her own words. The year was 2018 and it was a special evening.

She grew up in Greeley, CO where she and her brother started a band called “The JaDa Quartet.” They played places around Colorado and eventually made it to New York where the band was booked on several television series as musical guests. Andy’s manager, Richard Link, helped the group get the bookings and they were off to a great start. Maggie moved to New York then out to California where she landed the role of Charlene Darling. She had roles in movies, commercials and in guest staring roles in series like The Odd Couple,” “The Bill Dana Show,” “Gomer Pyle, USMC,” “Green Acers,” and “Mayberry, RFD.”

Listen, or watch, to hear the whole story. I would like to suggest you actually watch the video version of this episode so you can see the images of Maggie presented during the stage show.

This interview was originally aired in two parts on Two Chairs No Waiting number 573 & 574 in March 2020.

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:28:19

This is the sixth episode of Two Chairs focusing on the 1998 Mayberry gathering in Kingsport, TN. If you have missed any of the previous episodes you should go back and check them out by using the link in the notes below.

The event was called “I Remember Mayberry” and in this episode we hear from Maggie Peterson as “Charlene Darling.” Last episode we were about to hear Maggie singing things that weren’t on The Andy Griffith Show but songs she very much enjoys singing. This time, we hear from her as Charlene and she’s singing with her brothers, all of the original Dillards (Rodney, Doug, Dean and Mitch). She’s also joined by Elinor “Ellie Walker” Donahue and Howard “Ernest T” Morris on the stage. This was the final performance of the 1998 Kingsport event.

I want to once again encourage you to watch the video version of this episode because you’ll be able to see Maggie rather thank hear her, only. While you’re watching, be sure to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

We’ll try a few trivia questions for some fun.

This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Richard Bull” part 1.

TCNW 574: Maggie Peterson Interview Part 2

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:32:41

This is the second and final part of a series featuring our Maggie Peterson. Maggie played Charlene Darling but she did so much more. In the last episode we heard about her life before Mayberry and this episode stars off right when her time on The Andy Griffith Show as about to begin.

Maggie grew up in Greeley, CO and moved to New York then out to California where she landed the role of Charlene Darling. She also did roles in movies, commercials and guest staring roles in series like “The Odd Couple,” “The Bill Dana Show,” “Gomer Pyle, USMC,” “Green Acers,” and “Mayberry, RFD.”

As a reminder, Maggie needs the help of fans & friends to pay health related expenses. This is a real opportunity to show Maggie how much she has meant to us all throughout the years by giving her the financial residuals that she has never received from her time on The Andy Griffith Show. You can give by going to http://bit.ly/maggiepeterson which is a shortcut to the GoFundMe.com site for Maggie..
