This is an episode I would encourage you to watch the video version because you’ll be able to see what’s happening on the stage in Kingsport, TN back in 1998. There were several stars from The Andy Griffith Show present for this event but we’re focusing on Howard “Ernest T” Morris in this episode. David “The Mayberry Deputy” Browning can be heard on stage with Howard Morris and later on you’ll hear Maggie “Charlene” Peterson as well.

It was amazing how Mr. Morris could control the crowd and bring them to their feet by just saying “It’s me, it’s me, it’s Ernest T.” Folks would stand, clap, and cheer for him and about when they sat again he would throw out another line that would once again get the crowd going.

We’ll play a little trivia, only 5 questions, but this time they’re a little harder.

This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Johnny Silver” part 2.

This episode we wrap up the panel discussion from the 2002 Mayberry in the Midwest held in New Castle, IN. The panel discussion the event held for the media with the cast members answering questions. If you didn’t listen to, or watch, last week for part one, I recommend you go back and do that. The cast members present were Howard “Ernest T.” Morris, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, James “Jim Lindsey” Best, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson and all four Darling boys; Rodney & Doug Dillard, Dean Webb and Mitch Jayne.

I recently found an old 8mm video tape that was used when I recorded the panel. The audio quality isn’t the very best but it’s content you won’t find anywhere else. You also get a feel for how the cast members are in “real” life as they interact with those asking questions and with one another. You’ll hear them answer one of the most asked questions ever, “Who was Mr. Schwamp?

In 2002 an event called Mayberry in the Midwest was held in New Castle, IN. I was lucky enough to be asked to be at the event as Floyd so I was able to go to the panel discussion the event held for the media with the cast members. The cast present were Howard “Ernest T.” Morris, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, James “Jim Lindsey” Best, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson and all four Darling boys; Rodney & Doug Dillard, Dean Webb and Mitch Jayne.

I found an 8mm video tape that I recorded during the panel. The audio isn’t wonderful but it’s good enough and you’ll get to see/hear things that few heard in person. You’ll get a feel for how these wonderful cast members are as “real” people and I know you won’t be disappointed. We’re gonna listen to the first fifteen minutes this week.

TCNW 627: Mayberry Man Movie Update

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:40:16

Wouldn’t it be great to spend a week in Mayberry? What if you weren’t a fan of The Andy Griffith Show? Would you still enjoy spending a week in Mayberry then? Well, the Mayberry Man movie is about just such a person, a non-Andy fan who is made to spend a week at a Mayberry event and forced to deal with all the tribute artist as they bring Mayberry to life.

This episode will give you an update on what’s going on with the movie and when you might be able to see it. Not only that, but we have the official trailer (so you may want to watch the video version of this episode of Two Chairs).

We’re also playing a little Mayberry trivia that I believe will be fun and you’ll have a good time.

The eBullet for March 2021 is out and it’s time for some News from around Mayberry. Jim Clark writes and publishes the newsletter for fans of The Andy Griffith Show every other month and it’s free to subscribe so I encourage you to make sure you’re getting it directly from the source by following the link in the show notes. Did I mention, it’s free?

The fun trivia questions we’ve been doing the last several episodes have been a hit with those who have written. (Okay, it was only about four people but, they wrote me so their speaking for everybody.) So, this week we have five new questions to test our knowledge.

This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Sheldon Leonard” Part 5.

TCNW 625: Frank E. Myers

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:38:38

Last week I talked about Frank E. Myers not being Mr. Schwamp, but who is Frank E. Myers? He was the production manager for The Andy Griffith Show and he was so much more. You might not know what a production manager does for a television series so you’ll learn that tonight as well.

In the January 26, 1993 issue of The Bullet: Official Newsletter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) Jim Clark wrote a wonderful article about Mr. Myers. Thankfully we have Jim’s wonderful recollection of Frank Myers life and carrier to find out more about the man and his part in making “our home town” of Mayberry come alive.

Let’s play some trivia to clear the bad vibes and then hear from Randy. This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Doug Dillard.”

TCNW 624: Frank E. Myers is NOT Mr. Schwamp

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:30:21

Late this past week an online “news” site posted a story claiming to identify the “true” identity of Mr. Schwamp. My darling person, Jan “Mrs. Weaver” Newsome, found the story and went straight to work trying to debunk it as being fake. I joined in the search for the truth and I can say that the published story is wrong. So, we’re going to try to “nip it in the bud” before Mayberry fans everywhere begin to believe the bad reporting.

Frank E. Myers, the production manager for The Andy Griffith Show, is NOT Mr. Schwamp nor is he (as the story claimed) Danny Thomas‘ brother. I have evidence to prove my reporting which was not really all that hard to find so I would not trust the website that carried the story (I’m not linking to them in the links below because they don’t deserve a link to a story that’s so wrong).

Let’s play some trivia to clear the bad vibes and then hear from Randy. This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Sheldon Leonard” Part 4.
