On last weeks episode we talked about where the “T” in Ernest T. Bass came from and found out the use of the initial was purposeful. We know that because the information came directly from the writer of the original episode with Howard Morris’ character of Ernest T making his appearance. The writers even stated specifically the initial was never used without the “T”. It was always like one name, “Ernest T.”
That got me thinking and during an 8 plus hour trip from Alabama to North Carolina with Kenneth “Otis” Junkin this past weekend we talked about it….A LOT. We had 8 or more hours to kill so we had plenty of time to come up with a reason. You’ll hear it on this episode.
We’ll also play some trivia that I think will be fun and then we hear from Randy Turner!
Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Chubby Johnson.”

The 6th Mayberry Meet-up was held in Mt. Airy, NC on 20-21 July 2018. The weather was amazingly cool and dry for the month of July all the way up til it rained on us at 8pm on Saturday. Even the rain couldn’t dampen the fun had by those who attended the meet-up.
This episode gives a report about what happened at the event and I hope it encourages you to go out to one Mayberry event or another to enjoy the fellowship of the Mayberry family. You will not be disappointed when you meet other folks who are fans of The Andy Griffith Show. They are the salt of the earth.

Randy Turner leads us off this week with his installment of This Week in Mayberry History featuring “Al Checco.”
Randy inspired me to look back at the wonderful article that Mr. Checco shared with The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) not long after Don Knotts passed away. I know you’ll enjoy hearing Mr. Checco’s memories of his time in the service with Don Knotts and their continued friendship throughout their lives.

Back in March 2018 during the recording of the LIVE pre-show for episode #468 I told a story about “Jan the Whistler.” The story isn’t 100% Mayberry but it certainly similar to an event that happened in Mayberry. People that were in the pre-show loved the story and wanted me to air the story again so, by popular demand we’ll share the story on this episode of Two Chairs.
We also have Randy’s Mayberry History report and then a few stories to get you read for the 2018 Mayberry Meet-up coming this weekend 20-22 July in Mt. Airy, NC.

We lost a member of the Mayberry family on June 30, 2018 when Dean Webb passed away in West Branson, MO. Let’s celebrate Dean’s life with a tribute to him written by Jim Clark (the “Presiding Goober” of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club).
Jim published a special edition of The eBullet to remember Dean Webb and his amazing life. Join us in paying tribute to this kind and generous man.

This podcast we do a walk-through of “The Haunted House” episode. First Aired October 1, 1963 in the fourth season of The Andy Griffith Show, it has been a favorite.
Plot Summary: Opie loses his baseball in the old Remshaw House and is scared off by what he thinks are ghosts. Andy sends Barney out to fetch the ball. Barney forces Gomer to come with him, and they are both scared away by what they, too, believe are ghosts. Andy takes the two of them to the house and discovers the true spook is a moonshiner who has rigged up the house to keep people away.
Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Nestor Paiva.” (Note: Nestor’s wife, Maxine, was once secretary to Howard Hughes.)
