When the precursor to iMayberry.com began back in 1991, it was partially as a way to deal with the uncertainty of the time. The aerial bombardment of Iraq in had begun in Operation Desert Storm or as many call it, the First Gulf War. It was a stressful time for our country. News reports of what was happening in the war region was continuous and it was hard to get my mind off of what was going on. My biggest release was the half hour or so I spent each day visiting “Mayberry.”
I would log on the computer and as I visited with my Mayberry friends, I was able to forget the worlds troubles and smile. I thank the good Lord for those friends and how they ministered to me by just being friendly and sharing a laugh with me through that time of stress.
We need that today, just like back in 1991. Actually, we’ve needed it in all the time in-between because there is always stress. It is friends and relationships that are really important in our lives. Let’s spend a little time together in Mayberry and recharge our spirit. Focus on what’s really important and grow our friendships and relationships because in the years to come, that’s what will make “the trees nice and full.”

Barney was always making his whole body a weapon in order to stop crime but why did he and Andy have that gun rack in the courthouse then? That whole rack was a weapon, well, it was full of weapons anyway. Have you ever wondered what type of weapons they were? I mean the brand, model, or make or the rifles, shotguns and even handguns seen on the show. I’m not a big gun collector but I got a call this week from someone who is and who’s on a mission to identify all the firearms seen in Mayberry.
I also got a note from another listener who found some information on “Nice Dress Nellie” that might add another clue to confirming her identity.

Little is known about this charming lady. She has been referred to by fans a “Nice Dress Nellie” because in the episode that Barney arrests the whole town, “Andy Saves Barney’s Morale” as she is released from jail with the crowd, Andy acknowledges her and comments “Nice Dress, Nellie.”
According to assistant director Bruce Bilson, her was Marvel (her given name), but he did not give her full name. Marvel was a stand in for Don Knotts and Mr. Bilson picked her for the stand in job. She was seen over and over throughout The Andy Griffith Show series.
A listener to the podcast has a good theory and we need you to help us run this lead to ground.
