This episode we wrap up the panel discussion from the 2002 Mayberry in the Midwest held in New Castle, IN. The panel discussion the event held for the media with the cast members answering questions. If you didn’t listen to, or watch, last week for part one, I recommend you go back and do that. The cast members present were Howard “Ernest T.” Morris, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, James “Jim Lindsey” Best, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson and all four Darling boys; Rodney & Doug Dillard, Dean Webb and Mitch Jayne.
I recently found an old 8mm video tape that was used when I recorded the panel. The audio quality isn’t the very best but it’s content you won’t find anywhere else. You also get a feel for how the cast members are in “real” life as they interact with those asking questions and with one another. You’ll hear them answer one of the most asked questions ever, “Who was Mr. Schwamp?“

In 2002 an event called Mayberry in the Midwest was held in New Castle, IN. I was lucky enough to be asked to be at the event as Floyd so I was able to go to the panel discussion the event held for the media with the cast members. The cast present were Howard “Ernest T.” Morris, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, James “Jim Lindsey” Best, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson and all four Darling boys; Rodney & Doug Dillard, Dean Webb and Mitch Jayne.
I found an 8mm video tape that I recorded during the panel. The audio isn’t wonderful but it’s good enough and you’ll get to see/hear things that few heard in person. You’ll get a feel for how these wonderful cast members are as “real” people and I know you won’t be disappointed. We’re gonna listen to the first fifteen minutes this week.
This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Don Rickles.”

Ronnie Schell played the character Duke Slater on Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. but he was also on The Andy Griffith Show twice. The first time he played director Jim Martin in the episode The Foster Lady then about two years later he played “Bernie the furrier” in Emmett’s Anniversary. Ronnie is a true friend to Mayberry fans everywhere and has been at many Mayberry events to share the love with the fans.
This interview took place at the 1996 Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous in Bradford, OH and was broadcast live by “Good Morning Mayberry” on Cincinnati’s WMOH 1450AM radio. The show was on every Saturday morning from 10am to noon back in the 1990’s. Host Mark “Golden” Richards and Dennis Hasty do an amazing job.
Enjoy!

We missed out back in May catching up on what was happening with the cast & crew of The Andy Griffith Show from The eBullet so I thought we could use this opportunity to do just that.
Jim Clark, the Presiding Goober of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club, works hard every month on behalf of Mayberry fans around the globe gathering information about the folks who made Mayberry come to life. Jim is kind enough to allow us to share his information here on the show but it’s just a tiny taste of the wonderful Mayberry meal you can partake of each month by subscribing to The eBullet and The Weaver’s Newsletter.
Thank you, Jim, for all you do. Now….let’s catch up on News of Cast & Crew.

Since we’re benefiting from the hard work that Jim Clark did with The eBullet, I thought it would be a great time to hear from Jim himself. We go back to the 1995 Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous where Jim is interviewed by Dennis Hasty and Mark “Golden” Richards.
