If you  missed episode 392, I recommend you head back and enjoy that episode before you move foreword with this episode since it’s Part 2.   Part 2 of what?  Well, just one of the biggest days Mayberry has had for quite a while.

29 August 2016 was a BIG day celebrating Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn’s 90th birthday in Mt. Airy, NC and let me tell you, it was a sight to behold.  I recommend you watch the video versions of the podcast to actually “see” the goings on so you’ll be able to feel like you were there.

This episode we focus on the evening of the celebration when we traveled downtown to the Earle Theater there in Mt Airy to watch “June Bride.”  June Bride was a 1948 movie staring Betty Davis, Robert Montgomery, and a young Betty Lynn in the title role.

We can’t watch the movie on the podcast but we can hear from Betty and her memories of the film and the stars.  PLUS we hear from North Carolina Lt Gov Dan Forest with a special presentation.  PLUS PLUS…a couple of “Mayberry” boys send their regards.  IT’S BIG!!

What a great day it was on 29 August 2016 when we spent the entire day celebrating Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn’s 90th birthday in Mt. Airy, NC.  I did something I’d never done before….live reports “on the scene” like a real reporter.   It was big!

The Andy Griffith Museum gave me permission to video and take photos inside the museum so I could give all of you an inside seat to Betty’s big day.  I was able to do several 2 minute reports throughout the day and this episode is a compilation of those reports as well as a few others that were not broadcast live.

I recommend watching the video version of this episode so you can see the things I’m talking about but if you can’t do that, the audio version should be like an audio “walking tour” of the events as they occurred.

We have so much to cover, I couldn’t get it all in one episode so be sure to come back in the coming weeks for even more fun from Betty’s 90th Celebration!

TCNW 391: Aunt Bee – Just the FAQs

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:21:19

It’s been quite a while since I’ve gone over any of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).  Way back on episode #179 we talked about Barney’s FAQs and then in #183 we went over Andy’s FAQs.  I figure after four years, it’s time to get some FAQs about Aunt Bee.

We’ll cover 9 FAQs about Aunt Bee:

1 How do you spell Aunt Bee’s name?
2 Aunt Bee speaks these lines in an episode: “Mum’s my name. Silence is my game. Tick a lock!” In which episode does she speaks them?
3 Aunt Bee one time said Opie was coming down with the “pip.” What’s the “Pip?
4 Aunt Bee was Andy’s father’s sister, because they have the same last name. Since Barney’s last name is different, but he still calls Bee “Aunt”, his mother was probably their sister, as well?
5 How many other characters (besides Opie, of course!) call Bee “Aunt”? Don’t Goober and Gomer call her Aunt?
6 Has anyone noticed that the stove in Aunt Bee’s kitchen never has all the burners turned off when she is not cooking. In “Romeo & Juliet”, she was not cooking anything, but the knobs on the stove were turned on.
7 Was Aunt Bee’s bedroom ever shown in an episode?
8 What was it that Andy and Barney thought Aunt Bee’s marmalade smelled like?
9 I’ve noticed Aunt Bee sings Chinatown in several episodes. How many was it?

TCNW 389: Mayberry Folks on Radio

Two Chairs No Waiting

I really enjoy Old Time Radio (OTR) and that’s one of the reasons I did Two Chairs No Waiting #384 as an OTR special.  That love made me really enjoy a bit of feedback I got from Jim Romig about OTR and Mayberry.  We’ll talk all about that on this episode.

We’ll also talk about a question related to Andy’s hair color and try to get to the root of the question.
