The “real Mayberry’s” Floyd the barber, Mr. Russell Hiatt, passed away on 3 May 2016.  He was a staple of Mt. Airy, NC, a friend to fans of The Andy Griffith Show, and just an all around loved figure of what Mayberry can really be in someone’s life.

In this episode we’ll be revisiting an interview I did with Russell Hiatt back on Two Chairs No Waiting episodes 26 & 27. Russell was the owner of Floyd’s City Barbershop located right next door to the Snappy Lunch on Main Street in Mt. Airy.  Russell was “Floyd” to those that visit Mt. Airy and he was a wonderful friend to all who knew him.

The interview was recorded on April 24, 1998 in the back room of the barbershop so there’s a good bit of conversation in the background but I know you’ll find it worth listening.

I’m always looking for topics to use here on the podcast and I often ask you, the listener, to provide me with ideas.  One such idea was presented to me several years ago and it was to talk about all the animals that appeared on The Andy Griffith Show (TAGS).  While this is a great idea, I don’t have a team of researchers to go out and watch every episode of TAGS and note the episode name, animal name, and time in the episode when the animal appeared so I just can’t do that topic.

As a substitution, I realized that The Encyclopedia of TV Pets by Ken Beck and Jim Clark just might have some good animal related information that folks would enjoy.
So, sit back and learn a bit more about the animal actors who lived in Mayberry.

Two Chairs No Waiting

It’s been a VERY busy several weeks for me and that got me thinking.  I love watching TAGS because it helps me unwind after a stressful day and it brings a calm feeling to me after I’ve enjoyed an episode or two.

If watching the show does that, would listening to audio clips do that as well?  When I hear audio from TAGS it always brings that episode to my mind and a smile to my face.  This podcast episode is designed to do just that for you and for me.  Sit back and enjoy these Mayberry clips and smile along.

I also have a song called “We Love Barney Fife” by Gums ‘n Roses from 1990 for you to enjoy and sing along with.
