I’ve been going through my old 8mm video tapes and ran across the 1994 Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous (I mistakenly said 1993 during the podcast). Finding things like this is like Christmas coming early because this video has almost an hour of interviews with Howard Morris, Betty Lynn, and Jean Carson that, unless you were there, most Mayberry fans will never have heard.
It’s always fun to find things like this to share with you because it’s original content you won’t get anywhere else. This is part 1 of 2. Below is a list of the questions you’ll hear addressed on this episode.
Favorite Episode?
What was Aunt Bee like?
Do you ever see/talk to Andy?
Howard, how were you chosen to be on The Show of Shows?
Do you know Mr. Schwamp’s real name? (Nobody knows his name.)
Does Howard have kids/grandkids as wiry as he is?
Why did Thelma Lou love Barney?
What did Daphnie think about Andy/what attracted her to Andy?
Did Richard Linke’s wife play parts on TAGS? (The cast didn’t know but she wasn’t on the show.)
Howard, were you a director or an actor first? What did you direct?
Do you ever run into the “Darling” clan?
Did you enjoy making Return to Mayberry?
How is Don Knotts health?
Betty, what was Thelma Lou’s occupation?
Barney can’t sing….
Tim Allen was on an award show and thanked Howard Morris, was that you?
Betty, did you ever have a relationship with Don Knotts outside the set?
Howard, were you married at the time the shows were being produced?
Do you three watch the old episodes?
Jean, which role did you like the best? Fun Girl or escaped convict?
What’s your favorite episode?
Is your personality similar to the character on the show?
Did Andy ever ask any of you to be on Matlock?
Any contact with Jim Nabors?
When Jeff Pruitt came to town looking for a wife we saw a different side of Barney.
Could Howard Morris do Ole Aunt Maria?
Did you do much improvising during the shows or stay with the script?

Andy Griffith passed way on July 3, 2012 and we covered his passing for four episodes in a row (196-199). Since then, I haven’t attempted to say more about Andy because there was so much said then by not only me but by the American people in general. Andy was loved by so many and it was shown by the outpouring of comments by the media as well as by “regular” folks like you and me.
I ran across something recently that I either missed back in 2012 or had forgotten. It’s a story written by Joanne Ostrow, the Denver Post Television Critic, about how Andy’s passing impacted his daughter Dixie Nann Griffith. I e-mailed Joanne and she was kind enough to allow me to share her article with you here on the podcast.

I recently ran across an article by Bill Easterling. Mr. Easterling had a column that appeared in the Huntsville Times for 22 years and this was one that I cut out and placed in my scrapbook. The story is from 1994 but the question is just as relevant today. Will values always stay timeless? I, and Mr. Easterling, believe they will. I’ll leave it to you to make your on conclusions.

This episode we’ll tackle a few questions from listeners and hear feedback from others. The main topic that I believe will interest you is our discussion of the 40 Acres backlot where the external shots from The Andy Griffith Show were filmed.
There’s a GREAT website devoted to 40 Acres called RetroWeb.com. Fans of The Andy Griffith Show and many other TV shows film in the 1950’s and 1960’s will enjoy the trip through memory lane when you take the virtual tour of the backlot created on the RetroWeb site. You may also notice homes and locations used on a little movie called “Gone With the Wind” if you look around a bit.
If 40 Acres doesn’t interest you, then stick around and you can at least learn more about me (your host) as I answer a question about how I got started as Floyd. If that really interest you, check out the interview done with me on back in episodes 144 thru 146. The link is in the notes below.

The “trivia for fun” episodes have been a big hit with many of you so here’s 10 more fun Mayberry trivia questions. These trivia questions come form a 1994 meeting of the “Mother Figure” chapter in Huntsville, AL. Ten other questions from this chapter meeting were covered in episode 273 of this podcast if you’d like go bad and try your luck.
The questions are not too hard so I believe you’ll enjoy trying to get the answers. I know just reading them made a smile come to my face.
