The treats just keep on coming here at Two Chairs No Waiting!  Recently a listener, Tony, contacted me to let me know he had an audio copy of something I might want and BOY was he right. Tony lives i the Muscle Shoals area of Alabama and that just happens to be in the same area what the University of North Alabama (UNA) is located.

As many may already know, George “Goober” Lindsey attended UNA back when it was known as Florence State Teachers College.  As a result “Goober” was at UNA for their homecoming game back in 1990 against Tennessee-Martin.  UNA eventually won the game 49-0 so, as you might expect, the play-by-play folks on the radio were struggling to find things to talk about to make the game interesting. In stepped George Lindsey and for the 3rd quarter announcer Jerry Knight was joined by “Goober” for commentary.

Thanks to Jerry Knight and Tony, we all get to relive the third quarter of that game when Jerry was interviewing George and talking Mayberry.  I edited out most of the play-by-play so we basically are treated to an interview from 1990 of George Lindsey.

Hey Mayberry,

WOW….let me just say that we had a wonderful time in Mt. Airy, NC this past weekend!

We had 29 Mayberry fans join us for the Mayberry Meet-up!  They came from *all* over but I think Ohio was well represented (4), Tennessee (4),  Alabama (3),  Georgia (2), and the most folks were from North Carolina (16) as it should be since we were in their back yard.

Friday started off great with a visit to the Andy Griffith Museum and autographs from “Thelma Lou” herself, Ms. Betty Lynn!  Folks stood in line for hours to meet Betty and get an autograph……none were disappointed.  She posed for photos and chatted with every person in line bringing smiles and tears to each along the way.

Friday and Saturday nights were highlights of the weekend for me, just behind visiting with Betty, because those able to do so gathered in the gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn  (thanks Alma!) to watch episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, select video clips from Mayberry & beyond, and visit!   Just like sitting on the Taylor’s front porch, we gathered to talk and get to know one another better.  What a wonderful time we had.

Last week we began our look into Mayberry Mayor Stoner…”Roy Stoner”…well actually we were looking at the man who played him and hearing about the wonderful radio career he had before the days of television.

On this episode we get to hear more from him about his movie and television roles.

I again want to thank The National Lum and Abner Society for allowing us to use this clip from their June 24, 1995 convention featuring Parley Baer as their special guest.  Tim Hollis, Donnie Pitchford, and Sam Brown are the  founding “ossifers” (or officers for those of you from the north) of the NLAS and they provided Two Chairs No Waiting this wonderful footage of Parley Baer.
