In this season five, “The Andy Griffith Show” episode entitled, ‘TV or Not TV,’ which originally aired March 1, 1965, Andy and Barney are approached about a potential television show to be named, “Sheriff without a Gun.” The Mayberry Sheriff Office discovers it cannot “bank” on this actually happening.
We had some feedback last week that I didn’t cover and one in particular influenced this entire episode.
The first bit of feedback, I think I did cover last week but we like re-runs around here so….I’ll do it again.
The second bit of feedback is from an anonymous caller talking about Otis Campbell Day in Nashville, TN. We’ll hear from him and I’ll clear up a few things he mentions then we’ll go and hear a full report on the Otis Campbell Day event from the April 13, 1988 edition of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watcher Club newsletter, The Bullet.
We’ll wrap things up by playing some Otis related multiple choice Mayberry trivia questions.

I have received a good bit of feedback from listeners/viewers of Two Chairs over the last few months. To be honest, it’s a bit more work for me to put together “feedback” episodes so I haven’t been able to do get an episode together until now.
We have some really good thoughts and ideas from you this episode so I know you’ll enjoy hearing from them. I certainly enjoy being able to hear your thoughts and I invite you all to send those thoughts so we can hear what you have to say.
We’ll the play some multiple choice Mayberry trivia to wrap things up.

It’s been a long time since I did a show about the top episodes of The Andy Griffith Show so I thought to celebrate the 750th podcast we’d have some fun with the top 10 episodes.
This list of top 10 comes from The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club web site poll that’s been going on for years. There have been 19,281 votes cast one vote at a time. Meaning, each person only votes for one episode when filling out the form.
We’ll list out from ten down to one and give you some “odd facts know by few” for each episode as we go. Hopefully you’ll have as much fun being reminded of the episodes as I did.
We’ll the play some multiple choice Mayberry trivia to wrap things up.

I’m always looking for things we may never have seen related to our friends in Mayberry. That being stories, photos, articles, or just about anything touching on either the characters on The Andy Griffith Show or the actors who played them.
I recently ran across an article from the Los Angeles Times from January 12, 1960 titled “Howard McNear as Acting Specialist” and felt like I had struck gold. There isn’t any talk about his time on The Andy Griffith Show because McNear first appeared as Floyd in the episode “Mayberry Goes Hollywood” on January 2, 1961, almost a year after this article was published. He had already been a barber on TV tough because he appeared as “Andy the barber” on season 2, episode 8 of “Leave it to Beaver” called “The Shave” (November 20, 1958). It was a memorable yet fairly small role that may have paved the way to Mayberry.
I realize I’m a bit biased toward this actor but I hope you’ll enjoy hearing a bit more about him and his career before “Floyd.” I’ve done nine episodes of the podcast about Howard McNear but since I’ve done about 740 episode that are not about him, I think I’m balancing pretty well.
We’ll play some trivia to wrap up the fun. Sit back and enjoy the show!

This is a first for me. An “in studio” guest here on the podcast. Kenneth Junkin, who is a tribute artist for Otis and seen in the Mayberry Man movie is here with me to tell some stories.
Kenneth has been on the show many times but we’ve never been here at Two Chairs HQ to record. He’ll tell us stories about Don Knotts, Betty Lynn, George Lindsey, Sue Ane Langdon (nurse Mary Simpson), Ernest Borgnine, Donna Douglas and more. Kenneth has been involved with Mayberry events since the very early 1990’s and has been performing as Otis since 1995.
I hope you enjoy this conversation and walk away feeling the excitement both Kenneth and I feel when talking about The Andy Griffith Show and those connected to it through either being on or being a fan of the show. We have been so blessed in all the things we’ve been able to do so I hope you can live some of the joy along with us.
