Hello Mayberry!    Hopefully you knew about the 2015 Mayberry Meet-up that was held in Mt. Airy, NC the weekend of July 17th through the 19th because I did all I could to let folks know we were getting together for some Mayberry fun.  If you didn’t get the word, I’m certainly sorry because you missed a fun and relaxing weekend.

2015 marked the 3rd meet-up at the Mayberry Motor Inn  in Mt. Airy.  This time Jan and I arrived in Mt. Airy early on Thursday so we could start the long weekend early.  It turned out that the Newsome’s weren’t the only ones wanting to get and early start on a long weekend.

I know you’ll enjoy this report about this weekend of Mayberry fun.

For years, there was a great column that ran in The Bullet which was the official newsletter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC).  Looking back over all the episodes of Two Chairs, I realized that we had never talked about Emmett’s Fix-It Shop Talk.

Emmett’s was “a forum for readers questions and comments” along with answers researched and written by TAGSRWC Presiding Goober, Jim Clark.   This week we’ll be looking at Emmett’s from the November 15, 1997 issue of The Bullet (Vol. 14, Issue 2-Profile: Allan Melvin).  I’m pretty sure that even if you did read the article back then, you’ve likely forgotten what was said so let’s enjoy remembering together.

Hey Mayberry folks!I’m putting together the “schedule” of things we’ll be doing during the Meetup weekend but PLEASE realize that nothing is mandatory and nobody will have hurt feelings if you choose to do things other than those suggest.  I just wanted to let folks know where Jan & I will be and invite you all to join us if it fits your schedule.

Friends…all the below are options/suggestions for things to do in Mt. Airy.  The main events, to me, are getting Betty Lynn’s autograph on Friday and the evening gatherings in the gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn to visit & get to know one another.

IMPORTANT:
I’ve been trying to find a way to communicate better while at the meetup so I’ve created a “Remind” class for the Mayberry Meetup. Remind is normally used for teachers to communicate with their classes but it will work great for this.  If you can get TEXT messages on your phone, this will allow me to text all of you at one time.  No personal information will be collected and you will ONLY get text messages from me related to the Mayberry Meetup.

To receive messages via text about the Mayberry Meetup 2015,

Send a text message to this number: 81010
with the following as the message:  @maymu
(include the “@” symbol)

Jan and I are looking forward to seeing you all in Mayberry!

Over the years, the Darling family have come to town sharing their omens, signs, and superstitions with the people of Mayberry.  Barney even added a few of his own from his grandmother’s book Signs, Omens, Portents and Charms to Ward Off Bad Luck.

I felt that it was high time I shared some of this mountain wisdom with you to help you stay healthy, lucky and loved as well as to protect you from evil spirits & the weather.

Some of these you’ll want to write down so you don’t forget them just in case you run into some bad luck and need to ward it off.   You call it superstition….I call it caution.

Since the podcast began back in 2008, we’ve dedicated two previous episodes to Myers Lake/Franklin Canyon in Los Angeles but we haven’t discussed it since 2011, so let’s revisit.

Franklin Canyon is the one place that remains where fans of The Andy Griffith Show can go and walk in the footsteps of Andy and Opie.  If you’re ever in the Los Angeles area, you do not want to miss your chance to visit the location that opened every episode of The Andy Griffith Show.

Andy and Opie walked along, Opie picked up a rock and then he threw it into the lake.  Who can forget that and if you visit the location, you’ll never forget that either.

In the episode we talk not only about Myers Lake but also a little about two “Mayberry” related commercials I recently ran across.  If you pay attention….Mayberry just seems to pop up no mater what you’re doing.

We missed out back in May catching up on what was happening with the cast & crew of The Andy Griffith Show from The eBullet so I thought we could use this opportunity to do just that.

Jim Clark, the Presiding Goober of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club, works hard every month on behalf of Mayberry fans around the globe gathering information about the folks who made Mayberry come to life.  Jim is kind enough to allow us to share his information here on the show but it’s just a tiny taste of the wonderful Mayberry meal you can partake of each month by subscribing to The eBullet and The Weaver’s Newsletter.

Thank you, Jim, for all you do.  Now….let’s catch up on News of Cast & Crew.

Continuing our series of episodes getting to know the people of Mayberry, we move along to Andy Taylor’s son.  Who is Opie Taylor?  Let’s find out.

Also, we’ll check out a 2006 article called “Pickups & Splashes from Floor and Pool” that I found while searching the web for that title recently.  I was surprised to find an actual column in a newspaper titled the same as Barney’s column in the school paper.
