We’ve been having some great fun looking back to the 1995 Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous the last couple of episode and we continue right along with this weeks show.
We hard from Maggie and Hoke (a.k.a. Charlene and Dud) individually last episode but this week we get to hear them as they sit on stage together and share more Mayberry memories with fans.

I’m always searching for new Mayberry related items you may not have seen that I can bring to you here on the show. Well, this week I was able to find a wonderful set of interviews with Keith “Johnny Paul” Thibodeaux that occurred at the 3rd Annual Mayberry Squad Car Rendezvous in Bradford, OH on July 7, 1995.
Keith played Opie’s friend “Johnny Paul” on The Andy Griffith Show but you may also know him from another role he played on a different television classic. He was “Little Ricky” on I Love Lucy.
The interview covers both those highlights and more so sit back and enjoy. Part one of the interview was broadcast live by “Good Morning Mayberry” on Cincinnati’s WMOH 1450AM radio. The show was on every Saturday morning from 10am to noon back in the 1990’s. Host Mark “Golden” Richards and Dennis Hasty do an amazing job. Part two with Keith also has Richards and Hasty emceeing but all the questions come from the fans in attendance.

I was looking for something new to talk to you guys about and because Elvis passes back on August 16, 1977 there was a lot of Elvis information flooding the internet. That’s how I happened across this gem from July 1, 1956 with Elvis, Andy, Imogene Coca, and Steve Allen.
The clip is from The Steve Allen Show and features the above mentioned stars in a skit called “Range Roundup.” This is one of the first appearances on television of Elvis and the only appearance I know of with Andy and Elvis together. I’m sure there may be other times they appeared on TV together but I’ve never seen them if there are.
Another treat for you is a clip from this past weekends “Mayberry Night” in Troy, NC. This clip features David “The Mayberry Deputy” telling a joke or two as well as performing with Rodney Dillard & The Dillard Band. Friends, this is just a small glimpse into the fun that can be had at a Mayberry event. Please make plans to join in on the fun by going to an event in your area. You don’t know what you’re missing.

In the last episode of Two Chairs listener Randy Bewer provided us with a jewel of Mayberry history related to Howard “Floyd” McNear and this week he’s done it again.
Ever wonder how the mind of 10 year old Ronny Howard worked? Well thanks to the article Randy uncovered we get a glimpse into what was on his mind in January of 1965.
Next up we hear from Paul Mulik related to the song sung by the gypsies who visited Mayberry in the color episode, “The Gypsies.” Turns out that the gypsy melody we heard in the February 1966 episode had it origins well before The Andy Griffith Show ever hit the air.

I love it when listeners help me find great content for the podcast and this episode is exactly that. Randy Bewer sent me an e-mail with a link to a story from the May 7, 1961 edition of The Milwaukee Sentinel titled, McNear: Barber Who ‘Cuts Up’ and it was gold.
I’ve been involved with The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) for going on 30 years and I had never seen nor heard about this article by United Press International writer J.A. Amant. I hope you enjoy this little nugget even half as much as I did when I first read it. It’s kind of like finding a lost bit of history.
You’ll also get to hear a little about the 2014 Mayberry Meet-up held in Mt. Airy in July. A fun time was had by all and I encourage you to get out there and visit with your friends and family….turn them in the Mayberry fans if you can.
