Was he out? That’s the question I’d like to hear your opinion on after you hear and see all the facts about The Andy Griffith Show episode, “The Ball Game.” This was a color episode…WAIT…don’t leave! This is a really good episode and you’re missing out on what Mayberry has to offer if you don’t know about this episode.
When Early Gilly takes ill, Andy takes over as umpire for the big Mayberry Little League game against Mount Pilot. The game is decided by a call at the plate when Opie slides into home and is called out by his father. The crowd erupts, and Andy gets an earful from town critics, who believe it was a bad call. In the end, Andy is forgiven and we see that he actually got the call wrong…..or did he. I, like Barney, have visual photographic proof that Opie was indeed safe…or was he?
On another topic, I heard about the gold truck in the episode “A Black Day for Mayberry” having pentagrams all over it. I researched it and you know what….it sure does have pentagrams on it. Is that an indication of so evil force at work in Mayberry? Is Count Istvan Teleky at work? You make the call.

I was reviewing my archive of hard copy versions of The Bullet and found a jewel in the June 1, 1992 issue. There’s a story in there by Jim Clark titled “Howard McNear – The Many Parts of Floyd the Barber” and it is a treasure!
On this episode of Two Chairs, I’ll read most of this wonderful focus on Howard McNear to you and I know you’re going to enjoy it. If you enjoy it as much as I think you may, y0u can purchase a copy of the full version for yourself over at Weaver’s.
Enjoy learning more about America’s favorite barber. “Everything’s okay in Mayberry.”

Folks seemed to enjoy our last “trivia for fun” episode so here’s another 10 fun Mayberry trivia questions. The trivia comes for a 1994 meeting of the “Mother Figure” chapter in Huntsville, AL.
The questions are not too hard so I believe you’ll enjoy trying to get the answers. I know just reading them made a smile come to my face.

In this “The Andy Griffith Show” season four episode entitled, ‘Andy and Opie’s Pal’ which originally aired on January 13, 1964, Andy (and Barney) teach Opie a lesson about friendship. Be sure to visit www.BurkeOnMayberry.com .
My wife and I recently took a trip to Tampa, FL where we were able to meet up with a Mayberry fan named Ron Blankenship. Ron, who goes by Emmett in Mayberry circles, is one of those folks that belongs in Mayberry. Like so many on The Andy Griffith Show, Ron has a quality of caring for his friends that makes him right at home with the citizens of Mayberry.
Ron chose the name Emmett to go by online because he’s a handyman himself. The name just kind’a worked because he, like Emmett, can fix most anything. I’m not sure about him being able to dance though…I didn’t think to ask him during the interview.
Ron is a fan just like you and me so who better to talk to than a fellow fan in order to learn what makes The Andy Griffith Show so special.

In late January 2014 The Andy Griffith Show cast member and all around great guy, LeRoy Mack performed for a packed house at the Zion Community Center near Gordo, AL. The community center is an old two room school house that now acts as the gathering place for family reunions and special events. LeRoy agreed to perform for an evening event in order to raise money for the center to be able to pay their insurance bills and whatnot.
What does that have to do with the Floyd & Otis at Zion title of this episode? We’ll, I’m glad you asked! LeRoy was joined by Ken “Otis” Junkin (who actually attended Zion when it was still a school) and Allan “Floyd” Newsome (your host) for the evening and it was a fun night, let me tell you.
I can’t play LeRoy’s performance because he makes a living performing and selling his music but I can give you a taste of the fun that can be had in Mayberry. We get to hear the opening act of the evening which was Floyd & Otis entertaining the crowd for twenty minutes or so. You’re going get to hear what you’re missing by not attending the Mayberry events held throughout the country. Make plans to attend one near you….you’ll love it.
