Welcome to episode 117 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “I’m a Whosoever.” Today I’ll be looking at season four, episode nineteen of The Andy Griffith Show, “Hot Rod Otis”. And I’ll also be looking at Scripture from Philippians 2:4.
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” ESV
It’s May and for the past several years the MeTV network has shown extra MAY-berry things throughout the month. This year, they are kicking off the first weekend of MAYberry with the TV reunion movie, Return to Mayberry, on Sunday May 7, 2023 @4pm ET. Hopefully you aren’t getting this episode late and missed it but even if you are, I think you’ll find things here that you’ll enjoy learning about the movie and what happened to our Mayberry friends.
The movie originally aired on April 13, 1986; almost 18 years after the series ended. Sixteen original cast members reunited to reprise the characters fans all came to know and love during the 8 years of The Andy Griffith Show. On April 11, 1986 the New York Time wrote an….unfriendly review of the television movie saying it was “a less appealing reunion for the audience than it may have been for its actors.” Well, they were proven wrong because “Return to Mayberry” was the highest-rated television film of 1985-86 with around one-third of the TV-viewing public having tuned in to the broadcast.
We’ll even play a little Return to Mayberry trivia. Come along with us and let’s have fun talking Mayberry.

When did The Andy Griffith Show first come into being? That’s the kind of question answered in the book by Randy Turner called “Mayberry Firsts” and we’ll learn the answer to that question on this episode. Randy’s book if full of fun and interesting information like what you’ll hear on Two Chairs No Waiting. If you want more stuff like this, head over to Weaver’s Department Store and pick up Randy’s book.
We hear from several folks who wrote into the podcast with questions this week. One of the questions I don’t know an answer to so I’m hopeful someone listening/watching might be able to help. Another bit of feedback comes from an Andy Griffith Show cast persons family member and I think you’re really going to enjoy hearing it.
Finally, we play some fun trivia that I hope you get a smile out of playing.

Welcome to episode 116 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “Test the spirits.” Today I’ll be looking at season four, episode eighteen of The Andy Griffith Show, “Prisoner of Love”. And I’ll also be looking at Scripture from 1 John 4:1.
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” ESV
I get a lot of comments from folks saying how much they enjoy the trivia questions we do here so I figured you might enjoy these questions that show up in The Mayberry Puzzle Book (Season 1). The questions aren’t really meant to be trivia questions but they certainly do appear to fit the bill. We’ll play the first one in the book which covers the first episode of The Andy Griffith Show, “The New Housekeeper“, and maybe you’d like to get yourself a copy of the puzzle book from Weaver’s Department Store and play all the puzzles from season one.
We hear from a couple of listeners/viewers of the podcast as well so come on and give it a listen or a view.

Welcome to episode 115 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “Jesus as Our Example.” Today I’ll be looking at season four, episode seventeen of The Andy Griffith Show, “My Fair Ernest T. Bass”. And I’ll also be looking at Scripture from Titus 3:2.
“to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people” ESV
I have been going through the Two Chairs No Waiting archives looking at things I have collected over the years. Photos, flyers, clippings and stories about our friends in Mayberry. I’ve been collecting these things for a while so it’s like finding “new” things. They aren’t new but I haven’t seen them in 20 or 30 years so they seem new when looking at them now.
One that I ran across was a story by Steve Maze from Alabama and his personal encounter with George Lindsey. It was written in 2003 but the encounter happened in 2001. I thought this would be something you would enjoy hearing and reliving along with me.
We’re gonna play trivia but this time we’ll do things a little different than we have been. You have two chances to answer the question. You get 2 points if you can answer without help and 1 point if you have to wait until the multiple choice selection is presented. I thought this would be a fun change of pace.
Enjoy the show and let me hear what you think about it. I’d love to hear from you.
