We received some sad news today here at Two Chairs No Waiting headquarters. The wonderful Elizabeth MacRae passed away on Monday May 27, 2024. She was 88 years old when she passed but she will always be remembered by Mayberry fans as a compassionate lady who enjoyed life and shared her joy with others.
To celebrate her life, we’ll listen to or watch (depending on how you partake of the episode) her performance at the 2006 Mayberry Days Col. Tim’s Talent Time show. Hosted by David “Mayberry Deputy” Browning with Allan “Floyd” Newsome on hand as backup Elizabeth took the stage as Lou Ann Poovie to sing “That Old Black Magic” for the assembled crowd of fans. It was an amazing performance that you have to hear to believe. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as she enjoyed making the crowd smile.
We have some trivia to correct from last weeks episode where I provided a bit of incorrect trivia. Then we’ll play a little trivia to make up for the mistake.

Plot Summary Mayberry Goes Hollywood:
A Hollywood producer visits Mayberry and, taken with the town’s charm, decides to use it as the setting of a new film. The town members become screen-struck and busily go about giving Mayberry a face-lift, changing everything the producer liked. Just before the citizens are about to cut down a landmark oak tree, the producer stops them and tells them what Mayberry’s appeal was to him: the townspeople’s simple, honest, down-to-earth ways.

Plot Summary Ellie for Council: Ellie runs for office, breaking the Mayberry tradition of what had been an all-male town council. Once again, Andy learns a lesson from Opie when he hears his own anti-woman opinions parroted by his son. Realizing the error of his ways, Andy speaks in favor of Ellie, rallying the citizenry to her side.

Jan and I were invited to attend a surprise birthday party for Clint Howard on April 20, 2024 out in Burbank, California. What an honor it was to be asked and there was no way we were going to pass on something like that. Clint’s wife, Kat, was who invited us and we couldn’t believe it was happening. We made very sure not to mention anything about traveling to California because we didn’t want to be like Barney and let word get out about the gold truck, I mean the party, and let Clint find out.

On April 11-13, 2024 there was a wonderful Mayberry event in Granville, TN. I’ll give a report on the going’s on during the Mayberry – Lucy Festival and we’ll hear from a couple of folks who called in with their personal reports on the event. I hope that hearing about the fun to be had at events like this might encourage you to make plans to attend an event near you
