Welcome to episode 101 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “Peace and Love” Today I’ll be looking at season four, episode three of The Andy Griffith Show, “Ernest T. Bass Joins The Army”. And I’ll also be looking at Scripture from Matthew 5:9.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
A couple of weeks ago, my friend and fellow Mayberry tribute artist, Eric Lowry posted a wonderful article called “In Defense of Mayberry.” It was so well written and it captured the way I feel about The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry in such a deep way that I asked if I could share it on the podcast. Eric was kind enough to allow me to do so. You are in for a treat.
Eric tells us why he, a grown man able to go on dates (if he wasn’t married) and everything, dresses up like a character from The Andy Griffith Show and appears at events. His thoughts reflect my own in a way that I wouldn’t have been able to put into words.
We’ll play a little trivia and then hear from SpiritWalker with his wonderful Returning to Mayberry report.

I just returned from the Cruise to Mayberry 2022 and what fun we had! I hope you might join us in 2023 for the cruise and to get you thinking we’ll go over the trivia questions from this years cruise. I recorded the trivia section of this weeks show during the cruise in my cabin and my wonderful wife Jan joined me. Okay, she made comments in the background but I’ll take what I can.
We’ll also hear from SpiritWalker with his wonderful Returning to Mayberry report. Enjoy the show and the trivia.

Welcome to episode 100 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “Fear Not.” It’s only appropriate that as I am recording this the Thursday before Halloween we’ll be looking at season four, episode two of The Andy Griffith Show, “The Haunted House”. And I’ll also be looking at Scripture from Joshua 1:9. While there never was an official Halloween episode of The Andy Griffith Show, most fans consider this one to be close enough.
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
It’s the spooky time of the year and it’s a tradition here on Two Chairs to tell a spooky story or two around the campfire.
I have a couple of shorter stories that I think you’ll enjoy and then, in the same feeling as “The Golden Arm,” I found “Chief Swanee’s Gold” written by Craig Dominey and Lanny Gilbert on “The Moonlit Road” podcast/website. Craig granted me permission to share that story with you and it will be followed by a version of The Golden Arm folktale.
The Golden Arm was most famously told by Mark Twain and also used by him to instruct others in how to tell a story. In 2015, I first presented the Mark Twain version of the story in episode #349. This being the spooky time of the year, I thought it was time to tell another version of the story.
This episode is spooky so be sure to keep those who might not sleep well, like Barney and Gomer, away from this episode I wouldn’t want to have anyone staring darkness trying to spot someone looking for their gold or their golden arm.

Welcome to episode 99 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “Having A Mind Like Christ.” Today I’ll be looking at season four, episode one of The Andy Griffith Show, “Opie the Birdman”. And I’ll also be looking at Scripture from Philippians 2:4.
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
Last episode we heard from some of you about your Mayberry Days 2022 experiences. I thought I’d tell you my story from “Floyd” perspective. Mayberry Days is always special and the the things I experience always leave a mark on me. The wonderful people I meet as well as working with my fellow tribute artist always results in memories that I cherish.
As I head into my 14th year of podcasting, the memories of events and fellow fans always give me something to think back upon and they make Mayberry “real” in my life.
We’ll play some trivia and hear from SpiritWalker with his Returning to Mayberry report.
