In 1998 there was a gathering in Kingsport, TN of The Andy Griffith Show cast members. The event was called “I Remember Mayberry” and it was a special time for fans. In this episode we hear from Elinor “Miss Ellie” Donahue and James “Jim Lindsey” Best and their performances at that event. I want to encourage you to watch the video version of this episode because I believe it will add a lot to the experience. The audio isn’t what I wish it was but it’s the best quality I could accomplish. Watching along will help you pick up on what is being said if anything is a little difficult.

It’s so exciting to see Elinor singing and dancing and then to see James come out and play, well…almost play, his guitar for the fans.

David “The Mayberry Deputy” Browning was the emcee for the evening and he’ll be introducing our Mayberry friends.

We’ll try our hand a few trivia questions between performances.

Pull up a chair, sit back and enjoy the show.

TCNW 631: Top That

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:35:30

I was sent a submission that featured Martin Simmons and Mike Bates answering a call for stories called “Top That!” Martin thought we would enjoy it here on Two Chairs as well because of the Mayberry connection to their story.

By request of some of the Two Chairs No Waiting listeners/viewer, I’m going to present a story from the winter 2021 edition of Mayberry Magazine that is an interview with my wife Jan and me. The magazine has been out for quite a while but I have been embarrassed to mention it here on the podcast. You’ll see why as I pass it along.

We’ll have 5 more trivia questions for you to try and correct some trivia assumptions made by me on the last episode.

This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Banjo-Playing Deputy.”

This is an episode I would encourage you to watch the video version because you’ll be able to see what’s happening on the stage in Kingsport, TN back in 1998. There were several stars from The Andy Griffith Show present for this event but we’re focusing on Howard “Ernest T” Morris in this episode. David “The Mayberry Deputy” Browning can be heard on stage with Howard Morris and later on you’ll hear Maggie “Charlene” Peterson as well.

It was amazing how Mr. Morris could control the crowd and bring them to their feet by just saying “It’s me, it’s me, it’s Ernest T.” Folks would stand, clap, and cheer for him and about when they sat again he would throw out another line that would once again get the crowd going.

We’ll play a little trivia, only 5 questions, but this time they’re a little harder.

This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Johnny Silver” part 2.

This episode we wrap up the panel discussion from the 2002 Mayberry in the Midwest held in New Castle, IN. The panel discussion the event held for the media with the cast members answering questions. If you didn’t listen to, or watch, last week for part one, I recommend you go back and do that. The cast members present were Howard “Ernest T.” Morris, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, James “Jim Lindsey” Best, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson and all four Darling boys; Rodney & Doug Dillard, Dean Webb and Mitch Jayne.

I recently found an old 8mm video tape that was used when I recorded the panel. The audio quality isn’t the very best but it’s content you won’t find anywhere else. You also get a feel for how the cast members are in “real” life as they interact with those asking questions and with one another. You’ll hear them answer one of the most asked questions ever, “Who was Mr. Schwamp?
